We're hiring a General Accountant to join a growing finance team supporting a multi-location retail business.

About the Role

This role is ideal for an accounting skilled who enjoys owning the accounting cycle—from month-end close and general ledger reconciliations to accounts payable, tax filings, and financial reporting. If you've worked in a small or mid-sized organization where you've handled multiple accounting functions, we'd like to hear from you. This position is not suited for candidates whose experience is limited to bookkeeping, payroll, or standalone AP/AR roles.

Responsibilities

- Manage month-end close activities, including journal entries, accruals, and General Ledger reconciliations.
- Perform balance sheet and bank reconciliations, investigate variances, and prepare correcting entries.
- Maintain fixed asset records and depreciation schedules.
- Prepare HST, sales tax, and other regulatory tax filings.
- Process full-cycle Accounts Payable, including invoice coding, matching, approvals, vendor payments, and employee expense reports.
- Review invoices, purchase orders, and expense reports for accuracy and compliance.
- Support internal, external, and government audits by preparing financial schedules and supporting documentation.




- Work closely with internal departments to resolve accounting inquiries and maintain accurate financial records.
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and operational efficiency.
- Assist with special projects and additional accounting responsibilities as needed.

Qualifications

- 2+ years of experience as a General Accountant, Staff Accountant, Financial Accountant, or Corporate Accountant.
- Hands-on experience with:
- Month-End Close
- General Ledger Accounting
- Journal Entries
- Balance Sheet Reconciliations
- Bank Reconciliations
- Full-Cycle Accounts Payable
- Financial Reporting
- Diploma or Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business.

Required Skills

- Strong Microsoft Excel skills (Pivot Tables and VLOOKUP).
- Solid understanding of accrual accounting principles.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.

Preferred Skills

- Experience in retail, apparel, fashion, wholesale, consumer goods, or other multi-location businesses is an asset.
