Job Summary (external):

The Infrastructure Specialist is responsible for the day-to-day administration, maintenance, and operational support of the WCB’s core technical infrastructure. Working within established frameworks, this role ensures the reliability and security of converged compute, enterprise storage, and network security systems.

The Infrastructure

Specialist focuses on executing technical tasks, resolving routine incidents, and maintaining high-quality documentation to support the broader infrastructure strategy.

Job Duties:

Maintains and administers the technical infrastructure stack by following established engineering configurations, operating procedures and change management controls.

Troubleshoots and resolves operational incidents by analyzing gathered information to identify primary causes and testing solutions to restore services promptly.

Performs routine system administration for virtualization platforms and converged hardware, ensuring system currency and availability.

Configures and troubleshoots network security and remote access solutions, including Checkpoint Firewalls, Omnissa Horizon, Cisco Identity Services Engine (ISE), Multi-factor Authentication (MFA), and Active Directory, according to defined security policies.

Executes routine maintenance on hybrid connectivity and data lines, monitoring for latency or performance gaps and reporting findings to senior staff.

Monitors the health and security of the infrastructure stack, including Active Directory/Public Key Infrastructure (PKI), F5 Load Balancers, and IBM Middleware; performing repairs and maintenance as required.

Executes regular system backups, archives, and recovery tests using Veeam.

Contributes to continuous improvement by utilizing automation scripts and tools (e.g., PowerShell, Python) and scheduling tools to increase personal and task efficiency, in accordance with security standards and peer review practices.

Develops and maintains technical documentation and user guides, records system changes and tracks follow-up.

Provides task-oriented support and coordinates personal work plans to align with larger project milestones.

Identifies and escalates non-routine issues, in the absence of established guidelines; provides senior staff with data-backed evidence to support advanced decision-making.

Actively develops technical proficiency in response to the WCB’s evolving hardware/software stack, maintaining high productivity while acquiring new skills.

Maintains protected equipment operation, within the data center environment, in accordance with Safety & Health regulations.

Provides continuous support to WCB's technical infrastructure, at the main office and other locations, both during and outside of normal working hours.





Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Two (2) year Diploma in Computers or four (4) year Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field, preferably from a CIPS-accredited program

Minimum five (5) years of practical experience in the implementation and support of Microsoft Windows, Microsoft 365, and cloud environments

Experience in designing and developing automated test procedures and scripts using software aids

Experience with converged infrastructure and enterprise-class storage

Experience with enterprise middleware (IBM WebSphere, MQ) environments

Familiarity with software-defined data center (SDDC) technologies, automated failover, and infrastructure-as-code (IaC) principles

Advanced knowledge of core networking, load balancing, and firewall administration

Understanding of infrastructure security, PKI, Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA), and data center compliance standards

Proficiency in server virtualization, enterprise backup, and system administration for high-availability environments

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work effectively under pressure

Ability to adapt to sudden changes in direction or priority and manage multiple projects simultaneously

Effective written and oral communication skills

Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team

Ability to communicate proficiently in both official languages (English & French) is an asset, but is not required The following designations are considered an asset:

- Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) certification
- VMware Certified Professional - Network Virtualization (VCP-NV) certification
- Veeam Certified Engineer (VMCE) certification
- ITIL Foundations certification
