Vancouver

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

Bloom Recruitment is in search of an IT Infrastructure Engineer to join our client's fast-growing team in Vancouver.

Our national MSP client is a TSX-V Top 50 company with a clear ambition: to become Canada’s #1 provider of managed services, connectivity, and data centres for mid-sized businesses.

Growing both organically and through acquisitions, they are now looking for an experienced IT Infrastructure Engineer to join their highly talented and motivated team. In this role, you will design and implement reliable and serviceable IT infrastructure across a broad range of technologies and client environments, intended to stand the test of time.

The successful candidate will have a natural curiosity to understand how and why systems work, along with a strong commitment to improving reliability and fixing broken processes.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

Project Delivery

- Lead and execute projects across IP networks, physical and clustered servers, and storage solutions including NAS, SAN, and SDS arrays.
- Deliver projects across cloud workspaces such as Entra ID / Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, and Nextcloud.
- Build and maintain thorough topology diagrams, KB articles, SOPs, runbooks, FAQs, and quick-reference guides for both internal support teams and client hand-offs.

Sales Engineering

- Collaborate with Account Managers, outside vendors, and clients to gather requirements.
- Author technical documentation including Statements of Work (SOWs), Bills of Materials (BOMs), labour estimates, Managed Service Agreements (MSAs), and implementation roadmaps.

Operations, Maintenance & Escalations

- Perform routine patching, maintenance,

and rigorous testing of backup and disaster recovery systems.
- Participate in, and occasionally lead: root-cause analysis, emergency remediation, and post-incident reviews during service disruptions.
- Participate in an on-call rotation as an escalation point, including occasional after-hours maintenance.
- Travel to local data centres and client sites when hands-on work is required.

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

Technical Expertise

- 5 years administering Windows Server environments, including Active Directory.
- 2 years administering Linux and/or BSD operating systems.
- Solid virtualization experience (Proxmox and Hyper-V preferred), including hypervisor migrations and conversions between virtual and bare metal.
- Deep fundamentals of IP networking and cybersecurity principles.
- Hands-on experience with identity providers, mobile device management (MDM) solutions, monitoring and RMM tools, and backup and disaster recovery tools.
- Experience with VDI or RDS environments is a major plus.

Mindset & Working Style

- Exceptional time management and task prioritization, with an inherent drive to understand underlying principles and systems rather than just checking off steps.

- Ability to follow standardized engineering processes while remaining nimble enough to adapt to and overcome hurdles and unique client environments.
- Clear written and verbal English communication skills, with the ability to translate complex concepts between technical peers and client stakeholders.

REQUIREMENTS, LICENSE & PHYSICAL DEMANDS

- Valid BC Class 5 driver's licence, a reliable personal vehicle, and a clean driver's abstract for data centre and client site visits.
- Capable of lifting objects up to 40 lbs and working from ladders.
- Comfortable working in tight spaces including server rooms or network closets

WORKING CONDITIONS & CULTURE

- In-office requirement: Full-time in-office during the probationary training period; 2 days per week in-office after training.

- Hours: Common staff working hours are generally 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM Pacific, with flexibility once training is complete. Occasional planned after-hours maintenance or client project work may fall outside regular hours.

- Culture fit: The Engineering team is comprised of highly autonomous individuals who prefer direct communication and an always-on, sense of humour.

This is a great opportunity for anyone interested in a hands-on technical role and elevating their technical skillset. Our client works with a vast array of technologies to tackle a diverse spectrum of IT challenges for businesses across Canada.
