Technical Product Manager - Card Issuing & Payments
About Our Client
Our client is a well-established Toronto-based financial institution backed by the stability of an established lender while operating with the speed and agility of a fresh startup environment. They are launching a brand-new consumer spending card and offering a unique, greenfield opportunity to shape and scale a high-impact financial product from scratch.
General Role Info
As the Senior Technical Product Manager, you will serve as the primary owner for this flagship initiative. Stepping into a true zero-to-one mandate with no legacy constraints or pre-set roadmap, you will unite cross-functional teams across engineering, design, compliance, risk, and external partners to take this spending card from initial concept through launch and ongoing growth.
Main Responsibilities
- Product Ownership & Strategy: Act as the end-to-end product owner, shaping early strategy, market positioning, revenue models, and long-term direction within the Canadian market.
- Requirements & Technical Delivery: Translate strategy into build-ready detail (user journeys, business logic, edge cases, and acceptance criteria); manage sprint planning, backlog grooming, and release schedules.
- Vendor & Network Integrations: Partner directly with card networks, payment processors, and platform vendors to nail down integration specifications and align delivery dates.
- Risk, Legal & Compliance: Work shoulder-to-shoulder with compliance, legal, and risk teams to keep the product aligned with regulatory standards from day one.
- Economics & Analytics: Model program economics (interchange revenue, processing spend, fraud risk) and establish tracking loops for key operational metrics (activation, usage volume, cost-to-serve).
- User Experience & Go-To-Market:
Collaborate with design and marketing teams to design effortless onboarding, wallet integrations, and retention-focused lifecycle campaigns.
Must Haves
- 8–10 years of product management experience within fintech, payments, or digital banking.
- Full 0-1 Card Launch Experience: Must have proven experience bringing a financial card product (credit, debit, or prepaid) from initial concept to live market launch, with specific details clearly outlined on your CV.
- Zero-to-One Experience: Proven track record of bringing complex financial products from idea to live market launch.
- Domain Expertise: Solid technical understanding of card issuing, card networks, payment processors, and transaction-based financial systems.
- Regulated Environments: Experience working directly alongside Legal, Compliance, and Risk teams in financial services.
- Unit Economics & Data: Proficiency in unit-economic modeling and using metrics/KPIs to steer product decision-making.
- Full-Cycle Delivery: Solid background in writing detailed technical requirements, agile delivery, and cross-functional leadership.
Nice to Haves
- Hands-on experience with Canadian card issuing frameworks, networks, and market compliance rules.
- Background partnering directly with CRM and growth marketing teams on card activation and habit-building strategies.
Other Important Info
- Salary Range: $115,000 – $135,000 CAD per year
- Work Model: Hybrid (3 days per week onsite in Toronto, Ontario)
