Job Title: Kitchen Supervisor
Job Overview: The Students’ Association of Olds College (SAOC) is mandated to promote the general welfare of students and to provide for the administration of student services, and one of our key student services is food & beverage operations. To that end, the Kitchen Supervisor assists the Head Chef in overseeing the daily operations of The Crossing Restaurant Back of House. Reporting to the Head Chef, the Kitchen Supervisor is responsible for ensuring top-tier customer service, strong team performance, and overall success.
The Kitchen
Supervisor works closely with the Kitchen Manager, keeping a pulse on staff performance and food quality.
Experience in the hospitality industry is essential, and experience with staff management, student services, and team leadership is considered a plus. Above all, the Kitchen Supervisor should have exceptional interpersonal and teamwork skills.
Objectives of this role:
- Support the Head Chef in managing daily back of house operations in a manner consistent with the FBM’s best practices and goals for the department.
- Promote a positive work environment for staff and a welcoming, inclusive, protected culture for guests.
- Ensure the restaurant’s compliance with SAOC bylaws & policies, as well as health, safety, and licensing regulations.
- Create an exceptional customer experience by delivering consistent, high-quality food and continuously enhancing menu items to reflect seasonality, creativity, and customer demand.
Key responsibilities/outputs:
- Communicate with the Front of House team regarding specials and changes to menu items.
- Control and direct the food preparation processes, ensuring consistency, speed, and quality standards
- Approve and polish dishes before they reach the customer to ensure quality and presentation.
- Work in partnership with the Food and Beverage Leadership Team to maintain seamless service delivery between the kitchen and floor, especially during busy shifts, events,
and catering services.
- Provide leadership, mentorship and support for kitchen staff across all levels as well as front of house staff.
- Aid in Maintaining kitchen inventory levels, and advise on ordering of food
- Aid in Conducting monthly inventory With Head Chef
- Ensure that food handling and safety is met and exceeded at all times.
- Help Manage back-of-house staff, including mediating conflicts as they arise and informing the Head Chef (FBM in Absence) of any major concerns.
- Monitor and reduce food waste by managing the use of infrequently used ingredients, and accurately recording all discarded, spoiled, or expired food items to track waste trends and improve ordering practices.
- Assist the Head Chef in executing staff training programs.
- Support FOH team during busy times or when needed to ensure seamless service.
- Foster a positive kitchen culture that reflects the values and brand of both The Crossing and Bloom.
- Act as a designated first aider for the Crossing Restaurant, including when working off-site at catering events.
Skills & qualifications:
- High School Diploma or Higher
- 2 years of experience in a related position.
- Must be available for evenings and weekends
- Valid ProServe, ProTect, and food safety certifications.
- Standard First Aid is considered an asset.
- Strong leadership and team management abilities.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to use personal vehicle for business purposes is an asset. SAOC has an authorized drivers program and reimburses for business travel expenses.

temporary (contract ends April 30, 2027) About SAOC: SAOC is an independent, non-partisan statutory corporation which operates in a not-for-profit fashion. We are incorporated by the Post-Secondary Learning Act to provide for the administration of student services and the promotion of the general welfare of the students of Olds College, who are our members. Our Board of Directors and Executive Council are Olds College students elected by their peers to serve one-year terms and set the strategic direction for the organization. This working board operates collaboratively with the Executive Director and core staff.
The SAOC has four primary departments: governance, administration, food & beverage, and student experience. Our primary revenue source is membership fees, but we also own and operate two on-campus food service facilities, The Crossing Restaurant and Bloom Cafe. The SAOC and its subsidiaries are currently located at 4500 50 St, Olds AB T4H 1R6.
