Lead Oracle DBA

Position Overview

Buchanan Technologies is seeking a highly experienced Lead Oracle DBA to support complex, enterprise-scale Oracle database environments.

This is a hands-on technical position focused on database architecture, administration, performance optimization, modernization, and operational excellence. The ideal candidate has deep Oracle expertise and enjoys solving complex database challenges in mission-critical production environments.

This role is primarily focused on technical execution and internal collaboration rather than client-facing responsibilities.

What You’ll Do

Oracle Architecture and Modernization

- Design scalable, secure, and highly available Oracle database architectures.
- Develop database technology roadmaps aligned with business and technical requirements.
- Lead database modernization, consolidation, migration, and cloud transformation initiatives.
- Assess existing database environments and recommend architectural and operational improvements.
- Provide database architecture guidance for current applications and enterprise integrations.

Database Administration and Performance

- Perform hands-on Oracle database administration across development, QA, staging, and production environments.
- Design and implement high-availability, disaster-recovery, backup, and recovery solutions.
- Conduct advanced database performance analysis, troubleshooting, and tuning.
- Optimize SQL execution plans, indexing strategies, memory utilization, storage, and overall system performance.
- Maintain database security, auditing, compliance, and operational standards.
- Monitor database health, capacity, availability, and future growth requirements.
- Perform database upgrades, patching, cloning, refreshes, and maintenance activities.

Development and Production Support

- Collaborate with application development teams throughout the software development lifecycle.




- Review database designs, schemas, stored procedures, SQL, PL/SQL, and data models.
- Support database deployments, release management, and production implementations.
- Troubleshoot and resolve production incidents, including completing root-cause analyses.
- Improve database standards, automation, monitoring, and operational processes.
- Translate application and system requirements into scalable database solutions.
- Participate in after-hours maintenance and production support activities as required.

Technical Leadership

- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to Oracle DBAs and database engineers.
- Offer technical oversight across multiple concurrent initiatives.
- Establish and maintain database standards, governance, and operational procedures.
- Assist with technical planning, effort estimation, and implementation.
- Collaborate with infrastructure, development, security, cloud, and other internal technology teams.

Required Qualifications

- 10 or more years of Oracle Database Administration experience in enterprise environments.
- Extensive hands-on experience designing and supporting enterprise Oracle database solutions.
- Expert knowledge of Oracle Database 11g, 12c, 19c, 21c, or newer.
- Advanced expertise in:
- Database performance tuning
- SQL optimization
- Execution-plan analysis
- Oracle RAC
- Oracle Data Guard
- RMAN
- ASM
- Partitioning
- Backup and recovery
- Experience supporting large-scale, mission-critical production environments with high-availability requirements.




- Strong understanding of database lifecycle management across development, testing, staging, and production environments.
- Experience with database upgrades, migrations, patching, cloning, and refreshes.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, documentation, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with internal technical teams.

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure.
- Experience with Oracle Exadata.
- Experience with Oracle GoldenGate or other replication technologies.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Azure or Amazon Web Services.
- Familiarity with DevOps, CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code, and database automation.
- Experience supporting enterprise resource planning platforms such as Oracle E-Business Suite, Oracle Fusion, JD Edwards, or PeopleSoft.
- Oracle OCP, OCM, or OCI certifications.
