Lead Welder / Fabricator

Metal District Fabrication is seeking an experienced Lead Welder/Fabricator to join our growing team in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.

This is a hands-on fabrication position for someone who enjoys solving problems, building custom projects, and figuring out repairs that don't come with instructions. We are not a production shop. Every day brings different challenges, and the ideal candidate is someone who can think independently and take ownership of their work from start to finish.

Responsibilities

- Fabricate and repair steel, stainless steel, and aluminum components
- Read and interpret drawings, sketches, and customer requirements
- Plan fabrication methods and determine efficient repair solutions
- Perform MIG, TIG, and FCAW welding as required
- Diagnose equipment failures and develop practical repair strategies
- Operate shop equipment safely and efficiently
- Perform occasional field service and mobile welding work
- Assist with mentoring junior welders and maintaining shop standards
- Communicate professionally with customers and coworkers
- Manage projects with minimal supervision

Requirements
- Minimum 8 years of fabrication and repair experience
- Strong welding skills in steel, stainless steel, and aluminum
- Proven ability to work independently and solve problems without constant direction
- Experience with custom fabrication, equipment repairs, and one-off projects
- Ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings
- Valid driver's licence with a good driving record
- Strong attention to detail and quality workmanship
- Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects
- Reliable, punctual, and safety-conscious

Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a small fabrication or repair shop
- Experience with mobile welding and field repairs
- Experience operating machining equipment




- Leadership or supervisory experience
- Experience interacting directly with customers and assessing jobs in the field

What We're Looking For The right person is someone who can walk up to a broken piece of equipment, determine what failed, develop a repair plan, and execute it with minimal oversight. About Us Metal District Fabrication is a full-service welding, fabrication, machining, and line boring shop based in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. We provide both in-shop and mobile services, specializing in custom fabrication, structural work, equipment repairs, machining, and problem-solving solutions for industrial and commercial clients.

Pay: $21.00-$35.00 per hour
