Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled and dependable Manual Machinist to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for setting up and operating machining/grinding equipment to manufacture, repair, and modify metal parts according to drawings, specifications, and required tolerances.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up and operate manual machining equipment, including lathes, milling machines, drill presses, grinders, and related tools.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, work orders, and specifications.
- Perform surface grinding, cylindrical grinding, ID and OD grinding, polishing, and finishing operations.
- Machine parts to the required dimensions and tolerances.
- Measure and inspect completed parts using micrometers, vernier calipers, gauges, and other precision instruments.
- Ensure finished parts meet the required dimensions, tolerances, and surface-finish requirements.
- Perform drilling, cutting, threading, turning, milling, and grinding operations.
- Repair, modify, and manufacture parts as required.
- Inspect grinding wheels, tools, and equipment before use.
- Select appropriate tools, materials, speeds, and feeds for each job.
- Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of machining and grinding equipment.
- Maintain equipment and perform routine preventive maintenance.
- Keep the work area clean, organized, and safe.
- Follow all company safety procedures and quality-control requirements.
- Complete production and inspection records accurately.
- Assist with other shop duties as required.
Qualifications and Skills
- Previous experience in machining, grinding, metal finishing, or a related industrial position.
- Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
- Experience operating manual lathes, mills, surface grinders and ID/OD Grinders.
- Ability to read and understand engineering drawings and specifications.
- Solid knowledge of machining methods, tools, materials, and tolerances.
- Experience using precision measuring instruments.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Good mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to lift materials and stand for extended periods.
- Machinist trade certification or apprenticeship training is considered an asset.
- Forklift and overhead-crane experience is considered an asset.
