Role Description The Mechanical Estimator is a full-time, in office role located in Brigden, ON. This role is responsible for preparing detailed estimates for mechanical and piping projects, including material takeoffs, labor calculations, equipment and subcontractor pricing, and overall cost summaries.
The Mechanical
Estimator will review drawings, specifications, and tender documents; request and analyze vendor and subcontractor quotes; and collaborate with project managers, engineers, and fabrication teams to ensure accurate and competitive bids. Daily responsibilities include updating estimating databases,
maintaining cost records, participating in bid reviews, and supporting both new construction and maintenance/turnaround proposals. The role also involves coordinating with the Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, and Crane divisions to capture full project scope and risk considerations, while adhering to safety and quality standards.
Qualifications
- Candidates should possess strong mechanical estimating skills, including experience with piping, structural, and industrial project cost analysis.
- Candidates should possess proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings, P&IDs;, isometrics, and technical specifications.
- Candidates should possess capabilities with estimating software, spreadsheets, and general computer skills for data analysis and cost tracking.
- Candidates should possess solid knowledge of construction practices, fabrication processes, and industrial safety standards.
- Candidates should possess effective communication, negotiation, and collaboration skills for working with internal teams, vendors, and clients.
- Candidates should possess strong organizational and time-management abilities, including attention to detail and capacity to manage multiple bids and deadlines.
- Diploma or degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Construction Management, or a related field, or equivalent experience in mechanical contracting, is beneficial.
- Experience in industrial, oil and gas, or heavy construction environments, and familiarity with Canadian codes and standards, is an asset.
