The National Circle for Indigenous Agriculture and Food (NCIAF) is seeking an experienced individual to lead, design, and oversee the implementation of a multi-year, community-driven program that supports Indigenous participation in the bison sector. The NCIAF is activating a community of partners focused on reigniting the role of Indigenous Peoples in agriculture and food through knowledge sharing and supporting business creation, while honouring First Peoples, their lands, and Mother Earth. The NCIAF’s work is guided by three strategic pillars:

- Advancing reconciliation and building bridges between Indigenous communities and agriculture and food industry stakeholders while creating a national vision for Indigenous agriculture;

- Supporting the development of Indigenous agriculture and food businesses; and

- Building Indigenous capacity for agriculture through awareness of opportunities, knowledge exchange, and education and skills development.

The NCIAF is an Indigenous-led, non-profit organization operating on core values of collaboration, communication, innovation, entrepreneurship, inclusivity, effective planning and execution, visionary thinking, and respect for Indigenous values, protocols, and ways of doing. Empathy is an important part of this, and the organization strives to be a leading voice in Indigenous agriculture while also expanding the conversation to a broader audience to ultimately advance Indigenous agriculture and create a sustainable future for Indigenous communities and the broader food system.

Key Responsibilities





- Lead the Indigenous Prairie Bison Initiative, advancing Indigenous food sovereignty, cultural revitalization, and economic development across the Prairie provinces.

- Build and maintain strong relationships with Indigenous communities, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, industry partners, researchers, and government stakeholders.

- Coordinate programs and supports that strengthen community-led bison operations, including training, mentorship, business planning, and knowledge-sharing opportunities.

- Oversee community-based learning herd projects, ensuring they are community-driven, culturally grounded, and positioned for long-term success.

- Manage program budgets, work plans, reporting, and funding requirements while tracking outcomes and measuring impact.

- Represent the NCIAF at events.

Skills and Qualifications

- Extensive experience in the Canadian bison sector.

- Degree in a relevant field or an equivalentcombination of education and experience.

- Proven ability to build partnerships withIndigenous communities, governments,industry, and researchers.

- Solid project management, budgeting, and reporting skills.

- Excellent communication, facilitation, and relationship-building abilities.

- Experience supporting Indigenous-led initiatives and community engagement.

- Knowledge of Indigenous food systems, food sovereignty, and OCAP® principles is an asset.

- Proficiency with digital collaboration and project management tools.

- Willingness to travel throughout the Prairie provinces.
