Our Clinical Assessment

Program brings together experienced physiotherapists and physician specialists to provide comprehensive clinical evaluations to inform interventional pain management. This includes physical examination, diagnostic imaging, evidence-based treatment recommendations, and ongoing management as appropriate.

The Opportunity The Advanced Practice Physiotherapist will provide comprehensive clinical assessments and coordinated follow-up for patients referred to Beam Radiology for interventional pain management. Working within a physician-led multidisciplinary team, this role uses advanced clinical reasoning, physical assessment, diagnostic imaging review, and evidence-informed recommendations to help guide investigations, interventional procedures, referrals, patient education, self-management strategies, and rehabilitation planning.

This is a patient-facing clinical assessment role rather than a traditional hands-on physiotherapy treatment caseload. The successful candidate may also collaborate with community rehabilitation providers to support coordinated ongoing care where appropriate.

Key Responsibilities

- Conduct comprehensive assessments and follow-ups for patients referred to our service.
- Incorporate diagnostic imaging and medical history/testing into clinical assessment reasoning and reporting.
- Support triage processes by identifying patient needs, red flags, functional limitations, and appropriate care pathways.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary team including physicians, nurse practitioners, nursing, research, and other clinical team members to support coordinated assessment and ongoing care.
- Provide clinical opinions related to differential diagnosis, referral, diagnostic imaging, and interventional options, including consideration of referral for clinical research review.
- Support physician-led diagnosis and interventional management, provide self-management advice, rehabilitation advice, and facilitate care through community therapists as appropriate.
- Participate in case conferences and interdisciplinary team discussions.
- Support ongoing development of clinical assessment program, including engaging in feedback/planning meetings, development of both internal and patient facing resources, and support clinical research or quality assurance initiatives as requested.
- Support timely and effective follow-up to diagnostic imaging,



patient contact requests, and follow-up.
- Support patient follow-up for any clinical assessment patients as appropriate.
- Practice within professional scope, applicable College of Physiotherapists of Alberta requirements, Beam Radiology policies, privacy obligations, and physician-led clinical governance structures.
- Ensure assessment findings, clinical impressions, recommendations, and follow-up plans are documented clearly, accurately, and in alignment with organizational and regulatory standards.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation which meet all professional, regulatory, privacy, quality assurance, and billing requirements.
- Prepare clear correspondence and recommendations for referring providers and other healthcare professionals as appropriate.
- Serve as a clinical resource for colleagues and interdisciplinary team members.

Qualifications

Required

- Registered Physiotherapist in good standing with the College of Physiotherapists of Alberta.
- Minimum three (3) years of progressive clinical physiotherapy experience in an outpatient musculoskeletal, neurological, or related field.
- Comfort working in a multidisciplinary, physician-led clinical environment with complex patient presentations.
- Demonstrated experience conducting initial clinical assessments, clinical reasoning to develop differential diagnosis, incorporating diagnostic imaging into clinical reasoning, sending or facilitating appropriate referrals, and interdisciplinary care.
- Advanced training or experience in musculoskeletal, orthopaedic, spine, sports medicine, or chronic pain assessment and management.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and report-writing skills.
- Robust organizational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities in a busy outpatient clinic setting.
- Experience with diagnostic imaging indications, interpretation of reports, and evidence-based imaging utilization.
- Experience working in interventional pain management, orthopaedics, physiatry, sports medicine, neurology, or community-based specialty care is considered an asset.
- Comfort in learning and using novel technology in their clinical assessment and documentation workflow.
- Ability to independently learn about and quickly integrate into practice the use of novel technologies, interventional techniques,



and changes in procedure.
- Willingness to identify knowledge gaps, acknowledge them and ask for assistance as appropriate, while independently working to address them.
- Ability to interpret non-physiotherapy medical research, including evaluating quality, interpretation of results, and integration into clinical practice as appropriate.

Preferred
- Authorization to order diagnostic imaging in Alberta or eligibility and willingness to obtain authorization.
- Previous experience in a Clinical Assessment Program, orthopaedic triage clinic, specialist assessment practice, or other advanced practice physiotherapy role.
- Experience collaborating with specialist physicians and interdisciplinary care within physician-led environments.
- Experience with Accuro EMR
- Excellent communication skills (spoken, written, reading and comprehension)
