Chalo Independent School Society (CISS) is the education organization serving the Fort Nelson First Nation (FNFN) in beautiful Northern British Columbia. Job Summary The Post-Secondary & Adult Education Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and delivering post-secondary and adult education services at CISS. This role supports students in accessing education opportunities, funding, and community resources while ensuring compliance with funding requirements, including from Indigenous Services Canada.
The coordinator provides case management support, mentorship, and program coordination, while acting as a liaison between students, educational institutions, and the CISS administration. The role also contributes to program development, reporting, and strategic partnerships to enhance student.
Duties
- Coordinates service activities for eligible individuals, including applying the appropriate case management approach, conducting assessments, providing guidance and periodic coaching, and submitting regular progress reports to the supervisor.
- Maintains filing systems, document preparation, and document control, drafts letters and documents for supervisor approval, organizes office calendars and communications, prepares and sets up meetings,
and ensures the smooth flow of information and correspondence in and out of the office.
- Conducts research as needed to support office operations and provides summarized findings to the supervisor.
- Provides support in records management, communications, and financial processing for the assigned service area.
- Support Adult Education programs at CISS by providing instruction and acting as the primary liaison between students and the CISS administration.
- Guides and supports the Post-Secondary Assistant in her role, provides training and mentorship, promotes continuing education and lifelong learning, and supports initiatives aimed at increasing the number of FNFN students.
- Coordinates ISC-funded post-secondary and education programs, identifies potential funding opportunities, and submits information and reports to the supervisor for review. Any application or reports for funding requires prior written approval from the Education Director.
- Develops and maintains strategic partnerships with post-secondary institutions, training providers, funding agencies, and community organizations to enhance student access and program delivery.
- Prepares and submits monthly reports to the director of education, including program updates, outcomes, and financial summaries as required.
- Collects and consolidates reports from Education Department staff and/or volunteers and supports the maintenance of accurate program files, statistics, and records (e.g., student participation, retention, completion rates, certificates, and diplomas earned).
- The Employee may be required to travel,
when necessary, to attend meetings, funding-related discussions, conferences, or other work-related activities outside of CISS in order to fulfill their duties.
Skills
- Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in post-secondary programs, education coordination, or a related field (post-secondary experience preferred)
- Education in a relevant field (e.g., Education, Social Services, Administration); Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Experience working with Indigenous communities or within First Nations education systems is an asset
- Strong understanding of student support services, funding processes, and program coordination
- Excellent organizational, administrative, and documentation skills
- Robust communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work one-on-one with clients and multiple stakeholders
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with professionalism
Employment Requirements
- Successful completion of a Criminal Record Check (including vulnerable sector)
- TB Test clearance
- Valid driver’s license class 5
