Job Overview
Neo Rare Metals is currently seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Process Operator to join our team at the gallium recycling and upgrading plant in Peterborough, Ontario. In this role, you will oversee and manage chemical processes involved in the recycling of gallium from waste materials. You will play a key part in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our plant while maintaining the highest quality standards.
Responsibilities
- Operation of rare metals recycling/upgrading process including gallium and indium.
- Hydrometallurgical processes include but are not limited to - leaching, precipitation, solvent extraction, purification, organo-metallic chemistry, metal refining and recovery.
- Sample / Production laboratory testing (standard preparation, atomic absorption analysis, general lab techniques such as titrations, pH/ORP, digestion (aqua regia), data entry etc.)
- General maintenance of process pumps, piping, valves and other equipment.
- Cleaning of pressure filters, electro-refining cells, tanks and other process equipment.
- Solids management of solvent extraction cells and solid/liquid waste removal.
- Other duties as assigned by the Production Manager.
As a candidate demonstrates positive performance and the required competencies, he/she will be trained for additional production tasks.
- The offered position will prioritize the chemical leaching process of feed materials.
Key Requirements
- Monitoring and Operation: Operate and monitor chemical processes and equipment for gallium recovery, refining, and purification in a safe and efficient manner.
- Process Control: Manage process parameters such as temperature, pressure, flow rates, and chemical concentrations to ensure optimal performance.
- Troubleshooting: Quickly identify and resolve process issues or equipment malfunctions to minimize downtime and ensure continuous production.
- Quality Control: Conduct regular quality control checks on the materials and end products to ensure they meet industry standards.
- Safety and Compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols, environmental regulations, and operational procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate records of operational parameters, process changes, and any incidents or maintenance activities in accordance with company procedures.
- Collaboration: Work closely with operators, supervisors, and maintenance staff to improve processes and optimize plant performance.
Essential Skills:
- Capacity to understand and follow written work instructions, work in compliance with related process controls, quality standards, as well as health, environmental and safety standards.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.Good record keeping skills and meticulous attention to detail.
- Strong understanding of chemical process operations, including handling and safe use of hazardous chemicals, and laboratory testing.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle physical demands, such as standing for long periods and lifting materials.
Education and Experience:
- Chemical technician, technologist diploma or applied science degree in a related field is preferred.
- Previous experience in a chemical processing environment, especially in the recycling or metallurgy industry, is highly desirable.
Terms of Employment:
- Full time, hourly wage.
- Rotating shift schedule (Mon-Fri 8 - hour days, Mon-Thurs 10 - hour afternoons).
- Overtime scheduled as needed.
This is a rare metals recovery and upgrading facility with requirements for the safe handling of chemicals and raw materials, including arsenic bearing materials, fumes and dust.
