For more information please contact: Elizabeth Anna - [email protected] The Regional DME Lead acts as a regional champion for teaching and Distributed Medical Education (DME), maintaining a comprehensive "handle" on regional activities and acting as the primary liaison between distributed hubs, clinics, programs, and the Department of Family Medicine (DFM).

The individual is responsible for building and strengthening regional partnerships, monitoring capacity to identify and address gaps, and maintaining a strong understanding of evolving teaching needs and practices. It requires proactive engagement across stakeholders to ensure alignment, informed decision-making, and effective support within the region.

This individual works closely with the Program Directors, respective PGME Cluster Education Directors and Associate Education Directors group from local programs. Also works with faculty across different partnering sites within the region.

GOVERNANCE:

The Regional Distributed Medical Education Lead reports administratively to the Associate Department Head, Distributed Education, who approves the annual work plan, sets priorities, manages workload expectations, conducts the annual performance review, and serves as the first point of escalation.

For program-specific educational matters, the Regional Distributed Medical Education Lead is functionally accountable to the relevant Program Director or Associate Program Director, including Postgraduate Medical Education, Undergraduate Medical Education, Master of Physician Assistant Studies, and Medical Licensure Program for International Medical Graduates, as applicable.

Where priorities, standards, or resource needs conflict across programs, the Associate Department Head, Distributed Education will confirm the decision path in consultation with the relevant Program Director or committee.

The Regional Distributed Medical Education Lead has authority to coordinate regional Distributed Medical Education activities, chair assigned regional meetings, identify opportunities, recommend faculty and community partner engagement, identify risks, and escalate issues requiring departmental or program-level decisions.

Final authority for curriculum, assessment policy, accreditation decisions, faculty appointment, and formal faculty performance action remains with the Department Head or with the respective Program Director.

QUALIFICATIONS:

- Holds a full license from the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba (either CCFP, CCPA or PA-C)
- Current or eligible faculty appointment with the Department of Family Medicine
- Previous teaching or clinical experience with the Department of Family Medicine
- Works within the region they represent

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Administrative and Leadership:

- Chairs the Regional Distributed Medical Education (DME) group.
- Works with the regional CMO to monitor and report on teaching activities within the region.5r




- Identifies and recruits new faculty and community partners within the region to support all DFM educational programs.
- In conjunction with the PGME Stream Education Directors of all programs within the respective stream, develops and periodically reviews a coordinated orientation approach for all incoming learners (including, but not limited to, medical students, residents, PAs, and other leaners), which includes an overview of all programs and departmental educational objectives, expectations, and policies.
- Meets with the Associate Department Head, Distributed Education at least quarterly to review priorities, risks, deliverables, and support required.
- Provides an annual written report to the Associate Department Head, Distributed Education and relevant Program Directors summarizing learner placements, teaching capacity, faculty recruitment and development, evaluation concerns, accreditation risks, regional partner issues, decisions required, and follow-up actions.
- Meets regularly with the PGME regional lead resident and other leader leaners (IMG lead resident, elected student leadership for MPAS, medical student interest group for UGME) as required.
- Participates in the accreditation processes as required for PGME, UGME, MPAS and IMG.
- Establishes and maintains ongoing communication with regional hubs, partner clinics and community sites.
- Acts as a resource to faculty with respect to curriculum, assessment and evaluations and to the community about opportunities for teaching.
- Provides input to the Program Director / Associate Program Director into the performance conversations of the PGME Stream Education Directors.
- Performance will be reviewed annually against an agreed workplan, including timely reporting, effective coordination across local programs, responsiveness to learners, faculty and preceptors, contribution to accreditation readiness, and appropriate escalation or resolution of regional educational issues.

Educational and Strategic Planning:

- Supports the PGME Stream Education Directors (local programs within the region) on
- Educational matters
- CaRMS process

- Establishes strategic goals for all types of learner placements across the region.
- Works with program teams to ensure seamless placements and scheduling of all types of learners.
- Supports faculty development by identifying specific needs among faculty in the region.
- Supports faculty evaluation and performance conversations for faculty within the region.

- Develops a supportive milieu for unit faculty, residents and other learners to pursue research activities consistent with their level of expertise.
- Supports/leads evaluation & continuous quality improvement of distributed education within their region.

- The current time required to fulfill the duties related to this position is 0.1 EFT.
