Position Summary The Retail Store Manager is responsible for the overall operation, performance, and success of the retail store, with a focus on achieving sales objectives, delivering exceptional customer service, managing store operations, and building a strong, engaged team.

The Retail Store Manager leads, coaches, and develops a team of Retail Sales Associates and Key Holders, creating a positive and engaging environment where employees are supported in delivering exceptional customer service, developing product knowledge, and achieving store goals.

This position is responsible for maintaining company standards related to sales, merchandising, inventory management, employee development, operational procedures, and compliance with company policies and applicable government legislation.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Development

- Recruit, interview, select, and onboard Retail Sales Associates and Key Holders to build a knowledgeable, engaged, and customer-focused team.
- Lead, coach, motivate, and develop a team of Retail Sales Associates and Key Holders to achieve sales goals, deliver exceptional customer service, and support store objectives.
- Provide ongoing coaching, feedback, and guidance to employees to enhance performance, product knowledge, and skilled growth.
- Create and maintain a positive, inclusive, and collaborative team environment that encourages engagement and teamwork.
- Lead by example by demonstrating strong customer service, sales practices, and company values.
- Identify employee development opportunities and support team members in building their skills and confidence.
- Schedule and allocate staffing resources effectively to support business needs.
- Recognize employee contributions and celebrate team successes.
- Address performance concerns and partner with Human Resources when required.





Sales & Customer Experience

- Drive store sales by delivering an exceptional customer experience and achieving sales targets.
- Create a welcoming environment where customers receive knowledgeable service and personalized product recommendations.
- Coach employees on sales techniques, customer engagement, and product knowledge.
- Develop and maintain knowledge of wine, beer, and spirits to provide recommendations and enhance the customer experience.
- Support promotional programs, marketing initiatives, and seasonal campaigns.
- Identify opportunities to increase sales, improve customer satisfaction, and enhance store performance.

Store Operations

- Oversee daily store operations to ensure efficient and effective store performance.
- Ensure the store is maintained to company standards, including cleanliness, organization, merchandising, and product presentation.
- Manage inventory levels through effective ordering, receiving, stock rotation, and inventory control practices.
- Monitor and control store expenses while working within established budgets.
- Ensure accurate cash handling procedures and point-of-sale compliance.
- Support opening and closing procedures, including store security requirements.
- Ensure compliance with Smart Serve requirements, responsible alcohol service practices, health and safety standards, company policies, and applicable government legislation.

Education, Experience & Qualifications

- College diploma or university degree preferred.
- Minimum 3-5 years of retail management or supervisory experience.
- Proven experience recruiting, leading, coaching, and developing a customer-focused team.
- Strong sales, communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities in a rapid-paced retail setting.
- Valid Smart Serve Certification is required.
- Knowledge of wine, beer, and spirits is considered an asset; willingness to learn is essential.
- Must be available to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends,



and holidays as required by business needs.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and perform occasional lifting requirements.

Compensation The target hiring salary range for this position is $50,000 – $55,000 annually, based on experience and qualifications. Placement within the salary range will be determined based on factors such as internal equity, market conditions, and the candidate’s experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
