Outsyders

British Columbia

About the Company Outsyders are redefining the art of theatrical 3D conversion. Founded by pioneers from three of the most respected stereoscopic conversion studios, our team fuses decades of experience with cutting-edge machine learning to push the boundaries of cinematic immersion. Our innovations are trusted by the biggest names in Hollywood.

We don't just convert films; we elevate them, delivering a premium 3D experience that enhances storytelling, deepens engagement, and sets a new industry standard.

About the Role We are seeking a creative and highly skilled Rotoscope Artist with hands-on experience in Silhouette, Mocha, and Nuke to join our team. This role is central to our stereo conversion and VFX work, producing the articulate, production-ready mattes that every downstream department depends on. We are looking for artists who lead with creative judgment, work at pace, and use the best available tooling, including ML-assisted workflows, to amplify what they can deliver.

Seniority level: Intermediate; candidates with strong foundational experience who are ready to step into an intermediate role will also be considered.

Demo reel or portfolio: Applicants must provide a link to a current demo reel or portfolio demonstrating relevant rotoscope work. Please include a password and shot breakdown where applicable. This is a fully remote contractor position open to candidates based in Canada.

All work is performed on colour-managed virtual machines hosted by Outsyders, so no local installs or asset wrangling are required. Training will be provided on our proprietary tools and methods.

This is a full-time position offered on a fixed-term basis for an initial 3-month period.

There may be an opportunity to extend the term, depending on business needs and the candidate's performance and fit with the team.

Responsibilities Rotoscope & Matte Creation:

Create articulate, production-ready mattes

Handle complex edge cases including motion blur, fine hair, semi-transparent elements, heavy defocus, and challenging plate conditions. Tracking & Automation:

Use Mocha planar and point tracking and/or Silhouette

Apply ML-assisted tools, segmentation, auto-keying, matte refinement, optical flow where they deliver quality and speed, and recognise where they do not.

Build and reuse efficient setups to reduce repetitive manual work. Pipeline & ShotGrid:

Manage tasks, versions, publishes, and notes in Shotgrid & internal databases

Deliver output to comp and downstream departments in a state they can build on immediately.

Review plates before starting and flag issues, frame range problems, missing elements, shots better solved in prep, rather than passing them downstream.
