Senior Consultant, Mining Engineer

Location/Work Arrangement: Remote from anywhere in Canada, with flexibility to travel occasionally for client meetings, project site visits, and team collaboration. Successful candidates should be comfortable with an initial 2-week onboarding program in South Africa , followed by occasional travel as project needs require.

About the Opportunity

Our client is an established international mining engineering consulting firm with a strong global presence and a growing footprint in Canada. As part of their continued expansion, they are seeking an experienced Senior Mining Engineer to support technical mining projects across Canada while helping establish and grow their Canadian operations.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who enjoys combining technical mine planning expertise with client interaction and business development, while working alongside a highly respected international team.

Position Overview The Senior Mining Engineer will be responsible for leading mine planning and engineering consulting assignments for Canadian mining projects while collaborating closely with the South African technical team.

In addition to technical project delivery, this individual will support business development efforts by leveraging existing industry relationships and representing the company with clients throughout Canada.

Initially, this role will be primarily remote while the Canadian office is being established, with a flexible hybrid model evolving over time.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership

- Lead mine planning and mining engineering consulting assignments for Canadian mining projects.
- Prepare and review mine designs, production schedules, mine planning studies, and technical reports.
- Work closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams across international offices.




- Provide technical guidance and mentoring where required.
- Participate in project reviews, feasibility studies, optimization studies, and operational improvement initiatives.

Project Delivery

- Manage multiple consulting assignments simultaneously.
- Coordinate with internal teams and clients to ensure project milestones are achieved.
- Conduct critical technical analysis and provide practical engineering recommendations.
- Travel to mine sites periodically to support project execution, data collection, and client engagement.

Client & Business Development

- Build and strengthen relationships with existing clients and industry contacts.
- Support business development activities through networking, conferences, and client meetings.
- Identify opportunities for repeat work with existing clients.
- Collaborate with the dedicated Business Development team to expand the Canadian client base.

Qualifications

Required

- Bachelor's Degree in Mining Engineering.
- Minimum 6 years of mining industry experience .
- Strong combination of:
- Operational mining experience; and
- Mine planning and engineering experience (operations and/or consulting).
- Experience in either open pit or underground mining .
- Strong hands-on mine planning experience using:
- Deswik; and/or
- Datamine.
- Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
- Comfortable working directly with clients and participating in business development activities.
- Legally authorized to work in Canada.

Preferred Experience





- Previous mining consulting experience.
- Experience working on multiple commodities.
- Experience preparing technical reports and feasibility studies.
- Exposure to multidisciplinary consulting environments.
- Previous mentoring or technical leadership experience.

Travel Requirements The successful candidate should be comfortable with:

- Short-duration site visits within Canada.
- Occasional client meetings across Canada.
- Approximately 2 weeks of onboarding and technical integration in South Africa during the first month of employment.

Work Environment

- Initially remote/home-based.
- Hybrid work arrangement as Canadian operations continue to grow.
- Flexible schedule with regular collaboration with the South African office.
- Typical work week of approximately 40–45 hours , Monday through Friday.
