Helpmap Agency is hiring a contract IT Architect for our LA County disaster response pilot and California scale-up phase.

Timeline: Immediate start through 15 December 2026.

Location: Montréal preferred; Canada / North America remote considered.

Role type: Contract / fractional senior technical role.

We require a senior AWS/cloud systems architect, staff/principal backend engineer, platform engineer, SRE lead, or technical founder with direct experience designing and operating production AWS deployments in scaling environments.

This is not a general IT role. The work is backend/cloud architecture for a real-time disaster information platform: resident reporting, public maps, APIs, verification workflows, geospatial data, multilingual communication, trusted partner feeds, observability, security, and incident-driven scale.

Relevant experience:



Production AWS architecture; Event-driven systems; Terraform, CDK, or CloudFormation; API Gateway, Lambda, ECS/Fargate, S3, RDS/PostgreSQL/PostGIS, SQS/SNS/EventBridge, CloudFront, WAF, CloudWatch, IAM, VPC; High-traffic or burst-traffic systems;

SRE, monitoring, incident response, cost control, and operational handoff; experience with geospatial systems, civic tech, emergency response, public-sector platforms, humanitarian technology, open-source deployments, or SMS/chatbot/social ingestion would be especially practical.
