The Opportunity

This is a unique opportunity to step into a standalone payroll leadership role within a company that has experienced 20–30% growth over the past three years and shows no signs of slowing down.

For the first two years, you'll own the payroll function, giving you the autonomy to shape how it's run while building a robust understanding of the business. As the organization continues to expand, you'll have the opportunity to help build the payroll team—playing a key role in identifying the skills and talent needed to support future growth.

During your first 6–8 months, the focus will be on learning the existing payroll operations and gaining a deep understanding of current processes. From there, you'll be empowered to drive meaningful improvements by streamlining workflows, implementing best practices, and introducing efficiencies that have a lasting impact on the business.

Beyond day-to-day payroll, you'll partner closely with the IT team to evaluate and implement new technologies, systems, and AI-driven solutions that modernize payroll operations. This is an opportunity for someone who enjoys not only managing payroll but also influencing how the function evolves as the company scales.

Key Responsibilities:

- Process payroll for full-time, part-time, salaried, and hourly employees
- Collaborate with project teams and IT to ensure timely preparation and approval of timesheets.
- Reconcile hours between systems to ensure completeness.

- Prepare and submit all required government remittances in accordance with Alberta regulations.
- Prepare and manage key payroll documents such as ROEs, T4s, T2200s, PD7A, TD4, and WCB billings.
- Onboard new employees into the ERP system.
- Post daily timesheets and process month-end payroll accruals and journal entries.
- Manage banked overtime, employee advances, and year-end payroll reconciliations.
- Generate payroll reports to support management decision-making and provide payroll insights.
- Respond to payroll-related inquiries from employees, management, and external agencies.
- Stay current on changes to policies, tax laws, labor regulations, and benefit programs.
- Administer employee benefits, RRSP contributions, sign-ups, and terminations.
- Reconcile and process benefit invoices, RRSP and WCB payments.
- Process and pay employee expense reports.
- Perform additional ad-hoc payroll and finance duties as required.

Qualifications & Experience

- 5+ years of payroll experience required.
- PCP or PLP preferred
- Strong proficiency in payroll software, ERP systems, and Microsoft Excel.
- Thorough knowledge of payroll principles, accounting best practices, and Alberta labor laws.
- Exceptional accuracy, attention to detail, and analytical skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
- Self-starter with initiative and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
