SENIOR SUPERINTENDENT

About the Prospect
We are looking for a Senior Superintendent to run the field on major commercial and institutional building projects. You own the site: daily construction operations, the schedule, site logistics, subcontractor coordination, quality, and safety. This is a hands-on leadership role with accountability for bringing the building in on time and on budget.
This is a senior staff position with a national general contractor with a long track record in the ICI sector across Canada. You will report to the regional Field Manager and work in close partnership with the Project Manager. Candidates must have led field operations on commercial or institutional projects in excess of $80 million.
Key Responsibilities
Pursuit and Pre-Construction
- Work with the proposal lead on project schedule, methodology, and site logistics for pursuits
- Develop and maintain the master project schedule with the Project Manager and subcontractors using MS Project or Primavera P6
- Develop the health, safety, and environment plan for the project
- Review contracts with the Project Manager to confirm scope and schedules are accurate and achievable
- Conduct constructability reviews and assist with trade subcontractor selection
- Identify equipment requirements and notify the equipment management team
Construction
- Plan, organize, direct, and control daily construction operations, with direct leadership of assigned junior site staff
- Prepare 2 and 6 week resource loaded schedules and monitor progress against the master schedule
- Measure site productivity, planned versus actual, and report daily on site progress
- Control site logistics and hold subcontractors, suppliers, and employees accountable to the schedule
- Run daily coordination huddles and weekly subcontractor trade and progress meetings
- Execute the quality management program proactively to minimize deficiencies, and review all subcontractor submittals
- Purchase, track, maintain, and forecast materials, and approve timesheets
- Manage permits, third party inspections, commissioning, training, and handover
- Support development of commissioning and turnover plans
- Manage project risk in line with the risk management plan and escalate concerns to the Project Manager
- Attend owner meetings and provide cost-effective solutions to construction issues
- Assist the Project Manager with cost forecasts and budget
- Champion health and safety practices and regulatory compliance on site
Post-Construction
- Complete deficiencies and warranty work, close site accounts, and demobilize the site
Team Leadership
- Manage, coach, and develop direct reports and site employees, including performance reviews
What We Are Looking For
- Undergraduate degree or diploma in construction management or engineering, or Red Seal endorsement
- 10+ years in construction, with field leadership on commercial or institutional building projects in excess of $80 million
- Healthcare, education, sports, or recreation project experience is preferred
- Strong command of contract administration, drawings, specifications, architectural and engineering standards, and building codes
- Strong budgeting, costing, and scheduling skills
- Proficiency with MS Office, MS Project, Procore, and SAP or similar ERP
- Proven leadership across internal staff and external sub-trades, with the credibility to hold a site accountable
- Strong communication skills across site crews, management, and clients
