ABOUT THE CHANCE
NL Health Services – Central Zone is seeking a full-time Clinical Assistant to join the Orthopedic Surgery team at James Paton Memorial Regional Health Centre in Gander, NL.
The successful candidate will work under the supervision of a staff Orthopedic Surgeon, supporting the delivery of comprehensive orthopedic surgical care in both inpatient and outpatient settings. This opportunity is open to physicians with a background in Family Medicine or a relevant specialty, as well as those with specific experience or interest in orthopedic surgery.
James Paton Memorial Regional Health Centre is the primary acute care facility for the Central Zone, serving as a regional referral centre and providing a broad range of secondary services to the communities of central Newfoundland.

QUALIFICATIONS
- Medical Degree (MD) from a recognized institution
- Eligible for licensure as a Clinical Assistant with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Newfoundland and Labrador (www.cpsnl.ca)
- Must satisfy privileging and credentialing requirements of NL Health Services Central Zone including a satisfactory criminal record check and vulnerable sector check
- Experience or interest in Orthopedic Surgery considered a strong asset
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide direct and indirect patient care within the Orthopedic Surgery program under the supervision of a staff Orthopedic Surgeon
- Assist with inpatient rounds, admissions, discharges, and patient investigations
- Support outpatient orthopedic clinic services as required
- Provide surgical assistance in the operating room for orthopedic procedures
- Participate in after-hours, weekend, and statutory holiday on-call coverage as assigned
- Work collaboratively with the interdisciplinary Orthopedic Surgery team
- Perform other clinical duties within the scope and qualifications of the Clinical Assistant licence
- Support person- and family-centered care; promote patient and worker safety by integrating safety into work practices, identifying risks, and implementing improvements
