Calian / Deloitte is a third‑party service provider contracted by the Canadian Armed Forces Recruiting Group (CFRG) to provide information and candidate sourcing support for CAF career opportunities and entry programs. As an external contractor for the CAF, we are actively looking for professionals to join the Canadian Armed Forces as a Social Work Officer (Social Worker).

Overview: As a member of the military, Social Work Officers deliver skilled social work services in a military setting to support the morale, efficiency and mental health of Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) members and their families.

Social Work

Officers offer clinical social work services similar to community mental health and social services agencies. As well as the full range of challenges common to Canadian society, CAF members and their families cope with additional stresses associated with frequent moves and separations. These stresses can give rise to social and family circumstances that involve complex social work interventions.

Responsibilities: In an operational support role, Social Work Officers are part of the health-care treatment team and are involved with the management of operational stress casualties as required. They conduct pre and post-deployment screenings and education, for deployed personnel.

Social Work

Officers consult with and advise Commanders, Commanding Officers (CO), Medical Officers, supervisors and other members of the health-care team with respect to social work issues affecting personnel and their families.



They provide counselling services to CF members and/or their families who are experiencing some form of distress. They also provide assistance to officers responsible for personnel career matters, by investigating and reporting on compassionate situations.

Social Work

Officers may participate in preventive programmes such as suicide awareness, stress management and family violence, and more. The primary responsibilities of a Social Work Officer are to: Provide clinical intervention services Assist in the resolution of compassionate situations Consult with and advise leaders on the social circumstances encountered by personnel in their units Investigate and report compassionate situations Deliver preventive and rehabilitative programs in the areas of: Pre- and post-deployment stress Suicide prevention Family violence Requirements: Master of Social Work (MSW) degree from an accredited Social Work Program in a recognized Canadian university Unrestricted license (active status) to practice as a social worker from a provincial or territorial regulatory authority/association (Canadian Information Centre for International Credentials >
