The Opportunity
Reporting to the AVP, Finance Systems, you will be a key member of the finance team, focusing on a wide range of financial and systems-based projects. This role is perfect for a designated accountant who is passionate about leveraging large datasets to drive financial integrity, process improvements, and strategic decision-making.
You will represent the Finance department in major systems projects, including ERP migrations and implementations, ensuring that business requirements are met and robust testing is completed. You will work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment, liaising with cross-functional teams including IT, Project Management, and other business units to identify, evaluate, and implement new financial systems and enhancements.
What to Expect
- Project Leadership & Systems Implementation: the focus of this role will be to represent Finance in systems projects. This includes identifying, researching, and implementing new financial systems and improving current processes. You will lead the review of business requirements and oversee user acceptance testing (UAT), including the development of test plans and assist in progress reporting.
- Data Analysis & Financial Integrity: Work with large, complex financial datasets to provide actionable insights. Analyze significant and complex transactions to recommend appropriate system implementations, ensuring compliance with accounting standards (IFRS), tax regulations, and internal policies.
- Process Improvement & Ad Hoc Projects: Lead and assist in preparing and implementing ad hoc projects related to the planning and reporting of financial results. You will review business processes, identify inefficiencies, and recommend optimizations to support our continuous improvement objectives.
- Collaboration & Support:
Act as a liaison between Finance, IT, and other business units to resolve system issues and ensure project goals are met. Provide month-end system support to the Finance department and assist in managing the team’s deliverables to ensure high-quality work that meets all deadlines.
What you Bring
- Designated Professional: You have a university degree in accounting, commerce, or business administration and have successfully obtained a Canadian accounting designation (CPA).
- Analytical & Detail-Oriented: You have a passion for making sense of complex information and large datasets. You possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a meticulous approach to ensure accuracy and quality.
- Project-Savvy: You have experience working on financial projects and can navigate a fast-paced, changing setting. You are organized, results-oriented, and can manage multiple work streams effectively.
- Collaborative Communicator: You are a team player with excellent verbal and written communication skills, confident in your ability to articulate ideas and detailed information in an impactful way to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Tech-Fluent: You have excellent knowledge of spreadsheet software (e.g., Excel) and word processing. You are conversant with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
Nice to Have
- Experience with large-scale projects, particularly ERP migrations or implementations (e.g., Oracle).
- Experience in business analysis and/or user acceptance testing (UAT).
- Familiarity with data analysis tools and languages such as SQL.
- Property and casualty insurance industry experience is an asset.
Salary Range: $92,000 - $142,000 High degree of proficiency with English required to service customers, both internal to the company and external, across Canada.
