Structural Designer / BIM & Revit Technologist

As our engineering team continues to grow, we are seeking an experienced Structural Designer / BIM & Revit Technologist to support our engineering, project delivery, and BIM development initiatives.
About the Opportunity
Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will work collaboratively with Structural Engineers, Project Managers, Sales Professionals, and Field Inspectors to develop high-quality engineering drawings, 3D models, and BIM deliverables for industrial storage systems and structural projects.
The successful candidate will prepare detailed engineering drawings using AutoCAD and Autodesk Revit , develop BIM models, coordinate multidisciplinary projects, and assist with project documentation throughout the design, permitting, fabrication, and construction phases.
This position provides an exciting opportunity to work on challenging industrial projects involving pallet racking systems, warehouse layouts, mezzanines, foundations, steel structures, and industrial facilities.
Key Responsibilities
Design & Drafting
- Prepare detailed structural engineering drawings using AutoCAD and Autodesk Revit.
- Develop accurate 3D BIM models for industrial storage systems and structural projects.
- Produce general arrangement, fabrication, erection, permit, and shop drawings.
- Prepare warehouse layouts, pallet racking layouts, mezzanine layouts, and foundation drawings.
- Develop construction details, connection details, sections, elevations, and structural plans.
- Prepare drawing packages for permit applications, fabrication, installation, and construction.
- Maintain drawing revisions and document control throughout the project lifecycle.
BIM Coordination
- Develop and maintain BIM models in accordance with project standards.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary BIM models with structural, architectural, mechanical, and electrical teams.
- Participate in clash detection and model coordination using Navisworks Manage.
- Support BIM execution plans, model quality control, and project coordination.
- Generate schedules, quantities, and documentation directly from BIM models.
- Assist with BIM standards development and continuous improvement initiatives.
Engineering Support
- Assist Structural Engineers in preparing engineering design packages.
- Prepare technical sketches, calculations support drawings, and construction details.
- Interpret engineering calculations and convert them into construction-ready drawings.
- Review manufacturer drawings for design conformity.
- Coordinate engineering changes throughout project execution.
- Assist in developing standard drawing libraries and engineering templates.
Project Delivery
- Attend project coordination meetings with engineers, project managers, contractors, manufacturers, and clients.
- Coordinate drawing submissions with internal and external stakeholders.
- Ensure drawings comply with project specifications, applicable codes, and engineering standards.
- Assist with material take-offs, quantity verification, and project documentation.
- Prepare technical reports and drawing transmittals when required.
- Complete assigned work within project scope, schedule, budget, and quality objectives.
Field Support
- Perform occasional site visits to verify dimensions and existing conditions.
- Support field inspections and engineering investigations.
- Assist with as-built documentation and record drawings.
- Coordinate drawing revisions based on field observations and construction changes.
Qualifications
Required
- Diploma or Degree in Engineering Design & Drafting Technology, Civil Engineering Technology, Structural Engineering Technology, Architectural Technology, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience in structural drafting and design.
- Advanced proficiency with Autodesk Revit (Structure) .
- Advanced proficiency with AutoCAD .
- Experience developing Building Information Models (BIM) .
- Working knowledge of Navisworks Manage for model coordination and clash detection.
- Strong understanding of engineering drawings and construction documentation.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating within multidisciplinary teams.
- Valid Class 5 Driver's License.
- Ability to travel occasionally to project sites.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with industrial buildings, warehouse facilities, or pallet racking systems.
- Experience producing structural steel, concrete, and foundation drawings.
- Knowledge of the Alberta Building Code (ABC), National Building Code of Canada (NBCC), CSA Standards, and Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) requirements.
- Familiarity with Rack Manufacturers Institute (RMI) specifications and industrial storage systems.
- Experience preparing permit drawings and construction documentation.
- Experience using Microsoft Project, or other project collaboration software.
- Understanding of fabrication processes and construction methods.
Technical Skills The ideal candidate will have experience with:
- Autodesk Revit (Structure)
- AutoCAD
- Navisworks Manage
- BIM 360 / Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC)
- Microsoft Office Suite
- Adobe Acrobat Pro

Working Conditions
- Primarily office-based with occasional travel to industrial facilities and construction sites.
- Collaboration with engineers, project managers, clients, contractors, and manufacturers.
- Occasional field verification, site measurements, and construction support.
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required during site visits.
Compensation Salary will be commensurate with education, qualifications, and relevant experience.
