Build Your CPA Career with Practical Experience
Nicole Cahoon Inc. is a growing CPA firm in the Comox Valley. We're looking for a motivated third- or fourth-year accounting student who plans to pursue their CPA designation after graduation and is looking for meaningful public practice experience while completing their education.
This position is ideal for someone who wants to apply what they are learning in the classroom while developing the practical skills needed to become a successful CPA.
What You'll Do
As part of our team, you'll gain experience in a variety of areas, including:
- Preparing personal (T1), corporate (T2), and trust (T3) income tax returns.
- Assisting with compilation engagements and financial statement preparation.
- Performing bookkeeping and accounting using QuickBooks Online, Sage, CaseWare, and other accounting software.
- Preparing GST, PST, payroll, and other government filings.
- Researching tax issues and assisting with problem-solving.
- Communicating with clients to gather information and answer questions.
- Supporting tax planning, estate planning, trust, and business advisory projects.
- Working with a diverse range of individuals, businesses, estates, and trusts.
- Learning all aspects of operating a professional CPA practice, including providing exceptional client service and supporting the day-to-day operations of the office.
As your knowledge and confidence grow, you'll take on increasing responsibility, more complex files, and opportunities to work directly with clients. Why Join Our Team?
Working in our firm means you'll gain exposure to many areas of public practice rather than focusing on one specialty.
You'll work closely with the firm's CPA and the rest of our team,
receiving mentorship and practical experience in accounting, tax, estates, trusts, and advisory services. Our goal is to help you develop into a confident, well-rounded professional and trusted advisor.
Our Approach
At Nicole Cahoon Inc., we believe the best accountants understand every aspect of a successful CPA practice.
As part of your on-boarding, you'll spend time learning how our office operates, our systems, and how we deliver exceptional client service. This includes supporting day-to-day administrative functions such as answering the phone, welcoming clients, processing mail, organizing files, scheduling appointments, and assisting with other office responsibilities.
These experiences provide an important foundation for understanding our practice and our clients. As your knowledge, confidence, and technical skills grow, you'll transition into increasingly complex accounting, tax, and advisory work.
We believe everyone contributes to the success of the firm. We're looking for someone who is eager to learn, willing to help wherever needed, and excited to be part of a cooperative team.
Who We're Looking For
We're looking for someone who is ready to take the next step in their accounting career.
Preferred qualifications include:
- Currently enrolled in the third or fourth year of a recognized accounting degree program, with the intention of pursuing the CPA designation after graduation.
- A strong understanding of accounting principles, including bookkeeping, account reconciliations, bank reconciliations, and financial statement preparation.
- Experience using QuickBooks Online, Sage, CaseWare, or similar accounting software is considered an asset.
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office.
- Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the confidence to interact professionally with clients and colleagues.
- A positive attitude, initiative, and a willingness to learn and contribute as part of a collaborative team.
- Previous bookkeeping, accounting, customer service, internship, or public practice experience is considered an asset but is not required.
We're looking for someone who enjoys working with people just as much as they enjoy working with numbers and who is excited to build a long-term career in public practice.
What We Offer
- Flexible scheduling around classes and exams.
- Direct mentorship and coaching from the firm's CPA.
- Hands-on public practice experience.
- Exposure to accounting, tax, estates, trusts, and advisory services.

- A supportive, collaborative work environment.
- The opportunity to build a long-term career with our firm.
If you're excited to build your future as a CPA, we'd love to hear from you. Please submit your resume, along with a brief summary telling us about yourself, your career goals, and why you're interested in joining Nicole Cahoon Inc.
