Theatre Technician Commencing September One Year Contract, Full-time, Year-Round Position If you are in search of working in a creative agile environment situated in a world class skilled facility with the opportunity to collaborate on creative theatrical productions, as well as nurture and shape young artists of the future, then consider joining The Country Day School’s Performing Arts Department. We are seeking a versatile, proactive, and highly collaborative Theatre Technician to provide excellent technical production support for all aspects of the school’s theatrical productions and a variety of other school events. As a key member of the production team, this role is designed for a dynamic professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment and possesses skills in audio, lighting, projection/video, stage carpentry, and scenic elements.

Strong skills in one area of theatre production and a desire to learn may compensate for less experience in other areas of theatre production The Theatre Technician reports to the Technical Director of the Performing Arts Centre (PAC) and will also assist in the overall day to day operation, maintenance and schedule of the Performing Arts Centre. This is an excellent professional growth opportunity to gain experience in all aspects of operations.

Core Responsibilities

Using your artistic abilities, you will be responsible for independently procuring and building props, creatively painting scenes, and working with the Technical Director to build performance sets for various theatrical performances.

Using your theatrical technical knowledge and expertise, you will be responsible for creating and executing all lighting designs for performances in the theatre.



This includes designing and positioning lights, operating the lighting console during performances, as well as maintaining and troubleshooting the lighting system as required.

Attentively and proficiently operating, maintaining and troubleshooting the sound system during performances.

Collaborating with faculty Production Directors on the creative technical aspects of three major Drama Productions throughout the school year, and all concerts and events in the theatre, and may include assisting with or providing design work for these events. Collaborating with faculty to mentor students throughout the school year on technical aspects of the theatre production for both curriculum-based projects and school performances.

Providing technical guidance to casual technicians, stagehands, and contractors.

Conducting routine inspections, preventative maintenance, and troubleshooting of all theatrical equipment and infrastructure to keep backstage and storage spaces safe and organized. Knowledge, Skills And Experience Post-secondary degree or diploma in theatre production, theatre technology, or another relevant field.

3 to 5 years of experience in the entertainment industry

Excellent technical knowledge and superior trouble shooting skills with various lighting and sound systems. Qlab and ETC’s Ion lighting board are an asset.

Valid certifications in First Aid, Fall Protection/Fall Arrest, Aerial/Elevated Work Platform, or theatrical rigging are assets

Experience providing mentorship to a group of individuals, preferably students

Excellent communication skills and strong interpersonal skills

Energetic, enthusiastic and creative with a positive “can do” attitude





Ability to work under strict timelines and in an environment that requires adaptability and flexibility A strong customer service ethic, with the ability to work respectfully and productively with a wide range of internal and external clients

Ability to demonstrate patience while working under pressure A self-starter who is capable, a quick learner, and able to work independently and as part of a team

Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills Employment Details One-year contract with the possibility to move to a permanent position.

Salary Range: $58,000 to $66,000 commensurate with experience.

The salary is based on 37.5 hours per week and work hours between 7:45 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. The standard schedule requires significant flexibility and regular hours will fluctuate to align with production schedules and event requirements. Evenings, weekends, and overtime hours will be required during peak seasons.
