Controller

Our TorontoJobs.ca Recruiting division client, in the professional services industry, is seeking a hands-on Controller to join their team during an significant transition period. We are actively reviewing candidates as they become available. This is a full-time opportunity in a lean, fast-moving environment where the successful candidate will take ownership of day-to-day finance operations and help ensure strong financial control, accuracy, and visibility.

This role sits at a Controller level and is best suited to someone who enjoys being close to the numbers and involved in both operations and reporting.

Key Responsibilities

Cash & Payments

- Monitor daily cash flow and support payment decisions

- Process EFTs and wire payments weekly

AP / AR / Billing

- Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable

- Follow up on outstanding invoices and issues

- Support timesheet tracking and billing processes

Payroll

- Process semi-monthly payroll across entities

- Manage payroll changes (hires, terminations, vacation, bonuses)

Month-End & Reporting

- Lead month-end close process

- Complete account reconciliations

- Prepare monthly financial statements and variance reports





- Support executive reporting and board summaries

Forecasting & Analysis

- Support forecasting updates

- Identify risks, variances, and trends

- Track key KPIs (placements, contractors, etc.)

Compliance & Audit

- Support government filings (monthly/annual)

- Assist with bank reporting and covenant tracking

- Support external audit process

Qualifications

- Strong hands-on accounting and finance experience

- Experience with full-cycle accounting and month-end close

- Payroll, reporting, and reconciliation experience required

- Comfortable working in a small, fast-paced team

- Able to take ownership and operate independently

- Staffing or service-based industry experience is an asset

- NetSuite experience is an asset
