Principal Software Engineer – Cloud Compute

As part of Akamai's Cloud Compute team, you will focus on building highly reliable, scalable, and cost‑effective storage solutions, empowering enterprises to create modern solutions to a broad range of problems.

Responsibilities

- Get in early on an exceptionally rare and impactful project.
- Own the architecture and technical direction of a platform built to scale.
- Work day‑to‑day in a close‑knit team while collaborating with a wider group to solve complex distributed systems challenges.
- Weigh the longer‑term implications of design decisions, not just the problem in front of you.
- Help the team grow through mentoring, code review, and raising engineering standards; define the next generation of cloud tooling.
- Work to define the next generation of cloud tooling.

Qualifications

- At least 10 years of professional software engineering experience; relevant education in Computer Science or a related field.
- Deep, proven experience in Go (C++ experience a welcome bonus).
- Solid experience building high‑performance, reliable systems (profiling, concurrency, memory/latency optimization, and performance debugging).




- Track record of designing and improving complex distributed systems; architecture that runs in production on Kubernetes.
- Familiarity with containers, Kubernetes, serverless computing, and Linux APIs.
- Higher‑level view when making technical decisions; weigh many inputs and long‑term implications.
- Cooperative, open‑minded, willing to share knowledge, mentor, and pursue curiosity.
- Comfortable in an Agile development environment (iterative delivery, reviews, planning, continuous improvement).

Compensation

Base salary ranges from 140,400 to 252,800 CAD per year. Compensation may also include annual bonuses, incentive opportunities, equity awards, and an Employee Stock Purchase Plan. Eligibility requirements apply.
