Advocis Broker Services ("ABS") is a boutique, national insurance brokerage affiliated with Advocis – The Financial Advisors Association of Canada, a federally incorporated nonprofit qualified association representing financial advisors across Canada. ABS provides insurance solutions that support the professional, regulatory, and risk-management needs of advisors, with a core focus on Errors & Omissions (E&O;) insurance and related professional liability and commercial insurance solutions. ABS operates within a regulated insurance environment and maintains strong governance, compliance, and financial discipline consistent with its affiliation with a national nonprofit organization.
Role Overview
ABS is seeking a Licensed Broker, Commercial Insurance to serve as a trusted risk advisor and portfolio manager for commercial clients. This role owns the end-to-end management of a commercial book of business, delivering consultative advice, disciplined risk assessment, and operational excellence across new business, renewals, endorsements, and claims support. The Licensed Broker contributes directly to client retention, revenue growth, and the long-term sustainability of the brokerage while operating within regulatory, underwriting, and governance standards. The role reports to the Director, ABS.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and retain a portfolio of commercial insurance accounts
- Serve as a trusted advisor on risk exposure, coverage strategy, and market options
- Lead renewal strategy, including proactive client engagement and remarketing where appropriate
- Maintain high client retention through relationship stewardship and responsiveness

Revenue Growth & Business Development
- Identify cross-selling and up-selling opportunities within assigned accounts
- Contribute to revenue targets through disciplined opportunity management
- Prepare proposals, negotiate terms with insurers, and secure competitive coverage placements
- Support new business acquisition efforts where required
- Maintain pipeline visibility and renewal forecasting discipline
Market & Underwriter Relations
- Develop and maintain strong working relationships with insurers, MGAs, and underwriting partners
- Negotiate coverage terms, pricing, and endorsements on behalf of clients
- Maintain knowledge of insurer appetite, product updates, and market conditions
- Ensure appropriate market selection consistent with underwriting strategy and compliance requirements
Operational & Regulatory Excellence
- Manage electronic interfacing with insurers for new business, endorsements, and renewals
- Ensure timely issuance of certificates, documentation, and binding confirmations
- Maintain accurate, audit-ready files in Applied Systems (EPIC), Policy Works, and insurer portals
- Adhere strictly to brokerage documentation standards and RIBO regulatory expectations
- Maintain valid RIBO licensing and relevant qualified designations (CAIB, CRM, CIP or equivalent)
- Assist clients with claims reporting and documentation
- Support effective communication between clients and insurers during claims processes
- Ensure files reflect appropriate documentation for defensibility and compliance
Professional Standards & Brand Representation
- Represent ABS with professionalism in all client and insurer interactions
- Demonstrate sound judgment, discretion, and ethical conduct
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of products, regulatory changes, and industry trends
- Support internal collaboration and contribute positively to the ABS team culture
Qualifications & Experience
- Active RIBO license (required)
- Insurance designations (CAIB, CRM, CIP) completed or in progress
- 0-3 years of commercial brokerage experience
- Demonstrated experience managing a book of business
- Strong understanding of professional liability and commercial insurance markets
- Proven ability to negotiate with underwriters
- High attention to detail and strong workflow discipline
- Strong interpersonal and consultative communication skills
