Job Summary

Principal AI Platform Engineer on the Data & AI Platform Team in Technology Infrastructure at the Royal Bank of Canada. The role focuses on delivering cutting‑edge data and AI capabilities, empowering RBC enterprise operations with transformative solutions such as enterprise data processing, DataOps pipelines, state‑of‑the‑art machine learning implementations, and advanced AI context engineering technologies.

Responsibilities

- Design scalable architectures for agentic AI applications, distributed services, MCPs, APIs, and data‑intensive workloads.
- Build production‑grade backend services, orchestration frameworks, and reusable platform components.
- Build resilient event‑driven big data processing framework and efficient query layer.
- Engineer effective context layer from structured and unstructured data for agentic AI workloads.
- Own service integrations, ensuring reliability, performance, and maintainability.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to understand data and AI requirements, provide technical solutions.
- Manage deployment and configuration of services, including DR.

Qualifications (Must‑have)

- Expert‑level backend development experience with Java, Python (Spring Boot, FastAPI, multithreading, messaging).
- Proven experience building cost‑effective agentic AI solutions and frameworks.
- Solid knowledge of container orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes).




- Proven experience building services on public and private cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, OCP.
- Experience architecting solutions leveraging OpenTelemetry, vector and graph databases.
- Creative and analytical thinker who is self‑driven and capable of working in a fast‑paced environment.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to influence technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications (Nice‑to‑have)

- Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent.
- Experience with ElasticSearch, Neo4j, ClickHouse.
- Prior experience working in a major financial institution.
- Prior experience managing a team of senior engineers.
