Recreation Worker – Responsibilities
- Plan, develop, and run a variety of recreation and leisure activities that promote wellbeing, purpose, creativity, community, lifelong learning, and fun.
- Facilitate both planned and spontaneous opportunities to support resident skill development and the formation of relationships.
- Assist in developing, planning, and implementing daily recreation activities in the home and in the community using holistic resident information and preferences.
- Create and maintain engaging spaces/environments in the home that support meaningful activity and participation.
- Maintain good communication with residents, families, friends, volunteers, community groups, and agencies.
- Observe, report, and document any changes in a resident’s ability to participate in activities, updating the plan of care as appropriate.
- Support all departments in fostering resident engagement in meaningful ways.
- Model and lead programs to maximize residents’ skills and abilities.
- Participate in the ongoing evaluation of the recreation program and related quality‑improvement processes.
Qualifications
- Prior experience working with seniors, preferably in a long‑term care setting.
- Graduate of a post‑secondary diploma or degree program in recreation and leisure studies, therapeutic recreation, or a related field.
- Or a post‑secondary degree or diploma in a health‑care related field with demonstrated skills, knowledge, and experience providing recreation and leisure services in a health‑care setting, including:
- Planning, developing, and facilitating meaningful activities across all domains of wellness for individuals of varying levels of functioning.
- Assessment, care planning, and related documentation.
- Therapeutic programming techniques and approaches.
- Application of recreation and leisure principles and practices, and implementation in a long‑term care or health‑care setting.
- Supporting others to foster a culture of resident engagement.
Salary and Advantages
Hourly rate: $23.54 – $24.25, based on qualifications and experience. The position is open and fully inclusive; Canadian work experience is not required. Applications are reviewed manually by the AgeCare team without the use of artificial intelligence.
