Purpose

The Principal Electrical Designer provides senior‑level design leadership and technical expertise for electrical design deliverables across major projects. This role is accountable for the quality, consistency, and timely delivery of complex electrical design packages in support of Worley and its customers, while providing technical mentorship to electrical design teams.

Responsibilities

- Lead and deliver high‑quality electrical design services that meet Worley, client, and statutory and regulatory requirements on time and within budget.
- Lead the development, coordination, and quality assurance of electrical design deliverables across the full project lifecycle (concept, FEED, detailed design, and construction support).
- Provide technical direction and oversight to electrical designers and drafting teams, including task assignment, workload planning, and design reviews.
- Participate in project planning, progress reporting, and compliance with required checking and quality assurance procedures.
- Ensure the project scope is clearly defined and that changes are managed in accordance with project change management processes.
- Support procurement, construction, and commissioning activities, including reviewing electrical equipment requisitions and technical bid evaluations; providing input to purchase orders and vendor documentation; resolving site and vendor queries.
- Coordinate closely with multidisciplinary engineering disciplines (instrumentation, process, mechanical, piping, automation) to ensure fully integrated electrical designs.
- Proactively identify and resolve discrepancies between Worley and client design standards and requirements.
- Provide technical input into constructability,



maintainability, and operability reviews.
- Support and mentor junior designers and engineers, fostering technical excellence and knowledge sharing within the electrical design team.
- Communicate effectively with project stakeholders, including clients, vendors, and construction partners.
- Identify technical risks and issues, develop practical solutions, and elevate when appropriate.

Technical & Industry Experience

- Extensive experience delivering complex electrical design on industrial projects (energy, mining, chemicals, power, or infrastructure).
- Solid working knowledge of electrical design systems, workflows, and document management tools (e.g., SAP, KMS).
- Solid understanding of project scope development, workshare execution, and delegation of design activities across internal and external teams.
- Familiarity with process safety and operability considerations (e.g., participation in HAZOP/LOPA reviews where electrical systems interface with process safety functions).

- Electrical single‑line diagrams and schematics
- Equipment layouts and electrical room layouts
- Cable schedules, cable routing, tray and conduit layouts
- Power distribution and load lists
- Motor control center (MCC) layouts and schematics
- Grounding and bonding drawings
- Lighting and small power layouts
- Area classification and hazardous area electrical layouts
- Bills of material




- Material requisitions
- Construction and engineering work packages

Working Knowledge of Electrical Systems

- Low and medium voltage power distribution systems
- Motor control and variable frequency drives (VFDs)
- Lighting systems (industrial and outdoor)
- Grounding, bonding, and lightning protection
- Hazardous area electrical design and applicable codes/standards

Education, Qualifications & Accreditation

- Required: Accredited Engineering Technology, Design, or related technical qualification (Engineering degree or diploma preferred).
- Extensive experience in senior‑level Electrical design roles on large, multidisciplinary projects.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret, develop, and review complex electrical drawings, schematics, and technical documentation.
- Strong communication, coordination, and problem‑solving skills.
- Preferred (where applicable): Professional designation or eligibility for professional certification relevant to design or engineering disciplines (e.g., APEGA, ASET, or equivalent).

For applicants based in the province of British Columbia, the salary range is $118,726 to $160,630. Application of the pay band: Variation in salary is determined by factors such as the candidate’s qualifications, relevant years of experience, geographic location, internal pay equity, and prevailing market conditions for the specific role.
