Canada Mining Practice Lead

Responsibilities
- Project management of mining projects from design to construction monitoring and operations.
- Provide technical leadership to guide project teams on approach, requirements, and scope.
- Lead projects to successful completion, monitoring schedules, budgets, safety, and quality.
- Communicate project status with HDR operations leadership and network internally to assemble multidisciplinary teams.
- Expand program service offerings within Canada through local, national, and US-based teams and train and mentor newer mining team members.
- Engage in business development: client interaction, technical value development, positioning during proposals, and client communications.
- Recruit and grow the Mining Practice in Canada, expanding service offerings and capabilities.
- Serve as an active member of local and regional organizations, present at industry events, and mentor project teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in mining engineering, civil engineering, chemical engineering, or related discipline; PEng in at least one province (multiple provinces preferred).
- Minimum 10 years of related industry experience.
- Minimum 5 years mining project management experience.
- Experience managing mining projects to successful completion (budget, schedule, safety, quality).
- Familiarity with multiple commodities, soft and hard-rock mining operations, studies, design, and execution from exploration to closure and reclamation.
- Ability to lead teams on projects.
- Good planning, communication, and mentoring skills.
- Excellent competence in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project.
- Open pit and underground mine experience.
- Hard rock, soft rock, and industrial minerals consulting and operations experience.
- Committee, panel,
and presentation experience with SME, PDAC, CIM, and/or MAC.
- Experience working for a mine operating company.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Planning, Sciences, Business Administration, or a closely related field.
- Program management experience consistent with one of the following requirements:
1. Minimum 3 years in a deputy role to the Program Manager for delivery of one or more programs with cumulative capital value of $200 million or more.
2. Minimum 5 years as a Program Manager or Project Controls Manager for delivery of one or more programs each with capital value of $200 million or more.
3. Minimum 10 years as a Project Manager directing a multidisciplinary team for delivery of at least two projects each with capital value of $50 million or more.
- Strong leadership skills with experience building a cohesive team culture and managing members in various locations.
- Excellent communication skills and comfort presenting to client executives and large audiences.
- Management experience with implementation of projects or programs using alternative and team-oriented delivery methods (design-build, progressive design-build, construction management at‑risk).
- Familiar with program management tools such as PMIS, CMIS, scheduling, cost control, document management, risk management, asset management, dashboard analytics.
