About the Opportunity
Are you passionate about Kubernetes, cloud-native platforms, and designing the architecture that powers enterprise-scale engineering teams?
An industry-leading healthcare organization is expanding its mature Cloud Engineering practice and is looking for a Kubernetes Architect to help define the next generation of its cloud platform. This is a highly collaborative, hands‑on technical architecture role where you'll bridge cloud strategy and engineering execution.
Working closely with the Director of Cloud Engineering, cloud engineering leaders, architects, and platform teams, you'll translate strategic cloud initiatives into implementation‑ready architecture, reference designs, and technical standards. You'll influence how Kubernetes platforms evolve across the organization while partnering directly with engineering teams responsible for delivering those solutions.
This is not an Enterprise Architect position. You'll remain close to the technology, working alongside engineers to design scalable, secure, and modern Kubernetes platforms that accelerate application delivery across the enterprise.
What’s In It for You
Join a collaborative Cloud Engineering organization with an already mature Kubernetes practice that is investing heavily in platform modernization, AI initiatives, and cloud innovation. You'll have the opportunity to shape enterprise Kubernetes architecture, influence engineering standards, and work alongside experienced cloud leaders while remaining technically hands‑on.
One of your first major initiatives will be helping define the organization's Gateway API architecture , creating the technical blueprint that engineering teams will implement as part of a broader platform modernization strategy.
Your Responsibilities
- Partner with Cloud Engineering leadership to translate strategic cloud initiatives into scalable Kubernetes platform architecture and implementation‑ready technical blueprints.
- Define Kubernetes architecture standards, reference designs, governance, and enterprise best practices for secure, reliable, and scalable cloud platforms.
- Design and evolve the organization’s Integrated Developer Platform (IDP), enabling standardized CI/CD pipelines, automation, GitOps practices, and developer self‑service capabilities.
- Review existing Kubernetes architecture, identify opportunities for modernization, and recommend improvements that advance the organization’s cloud platform strategy.
- Lead architecture for strategic modernization initiatives, including Gateway API adoption and next‑generation Kubernetes networking.
- Collaborate closely with engineering teams to ensure architectural consistency and successful implementation of platform designs.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship across Kubernetes, cloud‑native architecture, Platform Engineering, DevOps, and GitOps practices.
- Partner with cloud architects, engineering leaders, and business stakeholders to translate technical and business requirements into scalable platform solutions.
- Drive continuous improvement through automation, Infrastructure as Code, platform standardization, and engineering best practices.
Skills and Qualifications
Required
- 10+ years of progressive experience in software engineering, infrastructure engineering, Platform Engineering, or cloud engineering, including architecture ownership.
- Deep experience designing and implementing Kubernetes architecture within enterprise cloud environments.
- Robust cloud architecture experience, preferably with Microsoft Azure (AKS). Experience with AWS or GCP is also highly valued.
- Proven experience translating business and technical requirements into scalable architecture, reference designs, and engineering standards.
- Strong experience with Platform Engineering, cloud‑native architecture, and modern Kubernetes ecosystems.
- Extensive experience with Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD, GitOps, and automation using technologies such as Terraform, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, Ansible, and Python.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills with the ability to influence technical direction, mentor engineering teams, and drive platform modernization initiatives.
Nice to Have
- Experience with one or more of the following technologies is considered a strong asset:
- Helm, Kustomize, ArgoCD, Crossplane, AKS, and GKE.
- Gateway API, Cilium, Azure CNI, NGINX Ingress, Istio Service Mesh, and Kubernetes networking architecture.
- GitOps methodologies, Argo Workflows, GitHub Actions, and modern CI/CD platform design.
- Prometheus, Grafana, OPA/Gatekeeper, observability, security, governance, and policy enforcement.
- Multi‑cloud Infrastructure as Code using Terraform and Kubernetes.
- Secrets and certificate management using technologies such as cert‑manager, ACME, or KeyFactor.
- Kubernetes platform modernization, migration initiatives, and cloud‑native transformation projects.
- Strong networking knowledge, including routing, User Defined Routes (UDRs), and cloud networking principles.
