The Office of the Auditor General of Ontario (OAGO) is an independent office of the Legislative Assembly that conducts performance and financial statement audits of the provincial government, its ministries and agencies. We also audit organizations in the broader public sector that receive provincial funding. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Director, Finance will provide strategic and operational leadership for the organization's financial management, reporting, and compliance functions. This position will ensure the integrity of financial information, support informed decision-making, and ensure compliance with applicable legislation, public sector accounting standards, and internal policies.

About the job

- Provide strategic leadership and direction for the finance department and drive the transformational change of the department while ensuring alignment with relevant accounting standards, legislative requirements, and OAGO strategic objectives.
- Lead day-to-day functions of the finance department, ensuring month-end and year-end closing processes meet organizational deadlines.
- Lead the annual budgeting process, quarterly forecasting and multi-year financial planning.
- Oversee accounting operations including accounts payable, policy development and continuous improvement of financial procedures.
- Prepare and present financial reports, analyses and recommendations to the Executive Team and the Board of Internal Economy.




- Ensure strong financial controls, policies and compliance in accordance with public sector accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
- Liaise with the Canadian Council of Legislative Auditors (CCOLA) Secretariat, providing financial support for processing payments, billing, budgeting and forecasting.
- Provide leadership, coaching and performance management for the finance team and foster a culture of accountability, collaboration and continuous learning.
- Contribute as a member of the Senior Management Committee to organizational strategy, planning and performance management.

What you bring to the team

- CPA designation (required)
- 8-10+ years of progressive financial leadership experience, preferably in the public sector.
- Extensive experience preparing and analyzing financial statements, forecasts and budgets.
- Experience in reviewing, preparing documents and presenting to senior leaders.
- Expert knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and methodologies and their impact on the public sector.
- Experience interpreting, developing and implementing financial and administrative policies, procedures and directives.
- Experience leading, overseeing, and supervising a team, including all aspects of people management, in a hybrid working environment.
- Exceptional leadership skills to foster innovation and a continuous-improvement culture in the finance team through the use of structured Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
- Excellent organizational and time management skills to manage competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint,



Outlook and Teams), and SharePoint.
- Excellent analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills, with the ability to anticipate impact of decisions on internal and external stakeholders.
- Hands-on capability to lead the transition from legacy accounting systems to modern accounting platforms.
- Experience identifying and eliminating manual workflows by introducing automated processes to operate more efficiently.
- Proven skill in guiding staff through digital transformations, addressing technology resistance, and retraining teams for higher-value analytical work.
- Ability to work cross-functionally, to embed up-to-date financial stewardship directly into operational departments including IT, Operations, People & Culture.
