NSERC Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in electrochemical technologies and functional materials for environmental energy transition
The Université du Québec à Trois‑Rivières (UQTR) invites applications in the fields of energy, advanced materials, and related disciplines for a Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) Tier 1 Canada Research Chair.
We seek an expert in electrochemical technologies (including electrochemical engineering) and functional eco‑materials derived from critical and strategic minerals and/or renewable resources, intended for applications related to energy and environmental transition. Areas of interest include energy production, storage, distribution, and use (batteries, fuel cells, hydrogen technologies), liquid effluent treatment, and the valorization of solid waste.
Research Focus
- Optimization of the use of critical and strategic minerals in energy systems to reduce dependence on these materials while integrating bio‑based materials.
- Study of material aging (particularly in operando) and assessment of environmental impacts of emerging energy technologies.
- Development of technologies with enhanced performance and reliability under extreme climatic conditions.
- Integration of advanced computational methods and artificial intelligence for micro‑nano system discovery and complex dynamic systems for energy applications.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will lead an independent,
innovative research program and contribute to teaching and training activities for undergraduate and graduate students. The candidate will foster inter‑sectoral research within the Joint Research Unit (UMR‑UQTR‑INRS) and collaborate with the Hydrogen Research Institute, the Innovation Institute in Ecomaterials, and other strategic partners. The Chairholder will leverage local industrial partnerships and benefit from the shared scientific infrastructure.
University Requirements
- The candidate must hold a doctoral degree (PhD) in a relevant discipline.
- The candidate must demonstrate sufficient proficiency in French or commit to acquiring proficiency following appointment. Previous teaching experience is an asset.
Benefits
Salary is determined in accordance with the collective agreement for UQTR professors. Chairholders may receive an annual bonus of up to 20% of their salary.
Commitment to Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion
UQTR is committed to fostering an equitable, diverse, and inclusive workplace. The university encourages applications from women, gender equity‑seeking groups, Indigenous communities, racialized individuals, individuals with disabilities, and LGBTQ+ communities. The selection process will consider life circumstances that may have impacted research outcomes. The process can be adapted to meet the needs of individuals with disabilities upon request.
