The Environmental Lead is responsible for developing, implementing, and continually improving environmental field programs for a major construction and commissioning project. The role includes full environmental compliance oversight, monitoring, reporting, regulatory interface, and contract holder responsibilities for a complex civil/marine dredging scope in a sensitive and partially contaminated area.

Core Responsibilities

- HSSE leadership — Drive a strong safety and environmental culture across owner and contractor teams.
- Environmental compliance — Deliver permit requirements, management plans, procedures, and field execution.
- Monitoring & reporting — Build and manage environmental monitoring programs and reporting tools.
- Regulatory interface — Engage regulators, manage permit deliverables, support incident reporting.
- Audit & assurance — Lead audits, verification activities, and continuous improvement.
- Spill preparedness — Support site and marine spill response planning.
- Field oversight — Coordinate consultants performing wildlife surveys, salvage, remediation, vegetation surveys, etc.
- Contract Holder – Dredging Scope (~USD 100M) — Manage contractor performance, SIMOPs, interfaces, permitting readiness, and change management.

Required Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering or science.
- Qualified environmental professional or equivalent.




- Minimum 10 years progressive environmental experience in oil & gas or heavy industrial projects.
- Strong understanding of provincial and federal environmental regulations.
- Experience managing environmental offset programs.
- Contract holder/contract management experience.
- Ability to lead cross-functional and multicultural teams without formal authority.
- Strong HSSE commitment and visible leadership.
- Ability to influence, energize, and set explicit priorities.
- Comfortable with ambiguity and rapid decision-making.
- Courage to challenge practices and drive improvement.
- Commitment to diversity, inclusion, and collaboration.

Work Conditions & Requirements

- Rotation options: 5x2 (Local to Kitimat) or 14x7 depending on candidate location and project needs.
- Office-hours schedule (~40 hrs/week) when on site, with flexibility.
- Pre-placement medical, background check, driving record check, and A&D; testing.
- Legally entitled to work in Canada.
- Compliance with drug-free and harassment-free workplace policies.
- Sensitive and partially contaminated industrial site.
- High regulatory demands (federal & provincial).
- Maintaining trust-based relationships with local First Nations.
- Integrating lessons learned from previous major projects.
- Coordinating inputs across multiple geographic locations.
