At Tractebel Inc. (Canada) we are seeking an Electro‑Mechanical Expert to lead the design, optimization, and implementation of hydro‑power plant systems and equipment. The role will be based in the newly established Montréal office and report directly to the Managing Director in Toronto. You will help build a local engineering team and bring TRACTEBEL Group’s global expertise to the Canadian market.

Responsibilities

- Lead key design decisions, optimizing complex hydropower plant or pumped‑storage systems and equipment.
- Provide technical consultancy services to clients in the hydro‑power sector.
- Review project deliverables (design reports, analysis reports, calculations, documents, drawings…) and take responsibility for the quality and technical integration of work being overseen.
- Prepare technical deliverables including design documents, technical specifications, test procedures, and commissioning plans for systems, equipment and components.
- Interface with other engineering disciplines to obtain data and resolve design issues.
- Conduct technical meetings with peers, partners, clients or suppliers.
- Lead, mentor, coach and train less‑experienced staff.
- Participate in sales activities and support business development.
- Work in accordance with applicable codes, standards, regulations and client requirements.
- Develop, maintain and align with Tractebel governance and standard working practices, strategies & objectives.




- Participate in recruitment for the Québec office.

Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Energy Engineering or related field.
- Minimum 20 years of experience in hydro‑power plant design and engineering.
- Demonstrated experience in hydropower and pumped storage projects.
- Strong understanding of regulatory compliance, safety protocols, and industry best practices.
- Proficiency in electro‑mechanical design software and engineering tools.
- Results‑driven approach with exceptional analytical, problem‑solving and project‑management skills.
- Excellent communication and technical writing abilities.
- Collaborative mindset, working seamlessly within multidisciplinary teams.
- Commitment to innovation, continuous improvement, and sustainability.
- Licensed Professional Engineer (ing. or Eng.) with the Ordre des Ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ) highly desirable.
- Knowledge of the Québec power market and regulatory environment is an asset.
- Fluency in French and robust proficiency in English.

Essential Physical Abilities

- Ability to meet attendance requirements.
- Handle multiple assignments on a timely basis with a high degree of accuracy.
- Use personal computer, calculator, etc.
- Some lifting may be required.

Working Environment

- Exposure to weather conditions.
- Moderate noise level.

Additional Details

- Eligible for hybrid work policy.
- Domestic travel up to 20% of the time.
- Must possess a valid driver’s licence/clean driving record.

- Approximately 20% outdoor work; may be exposed to weather conditions.

Compensation

Salary Range: $145,200.00 – $222,525.00 CAD annually. This is the average expected pay range for a qualified candidate. Actual salary offered may vary based on geography, experience, education and other factors. Eligible for a competitive bonus/incentive plan.
