This role offers a agile mix of technical plans examination and hands-on site inspections to uphold the highest safety standards for residential and commercial spaces.As a Building Safety Code Officer II, you will administer provincial safety code authority duties, auditing building applications and site developments for compliance with relevant legislation, codes, and municipal bylaws. Reporting to the Safety Codes Team Lead, you will provide critical technical expertise to developers, contractors, and engagement participants while exercising independent judgment on complex regulatory interpretations.What will you do?:Conduct thorough plans examinations and reviews of permit applications for new constructions and renovations to ensure compliance with bylaws and building codesIssue building permits and maintain the authority to withhold, suspend, or revoke permits through established processesCoach applicants through issues related to permit applications and follow up to ensure deficiencies are correctedConsult with internal municipal units and provincial authorities on complex code interpretations to ensure cohesive reportingPrepare legal agreements for cranes and hoardings and coordinate approvals with departments like Fire Rescue Services and Alberta Health ServicesProvide expert interpretations of the Building Code and bylaws to contractors, designers, and developersInspect projects for alignment with Occupational Health and Safety Standards and participate in environmental protection trainingTraining in other Safety Codes areas as business needs requireQualifications:Completion of 12th grade plus one of the following educational streamsRecognized Alberta Journeyperson certification (Carpenter, Plumber, Electrician, Sheet Metal Worker, Power Steam Engineer, or Bricklayer) plus 5 years of post-certification building construction experienceOR2-year technology diploma in a related field plus 7 years of post-diploma building construction experienceOREngineering or architecture degree recognized in Canada plus 5 years of building construction experience (minimum 1 year post-degree)Minimum 1 year of practical experience in building construction, project scheduling, and industry best practicesCertification as a Safety Codes Officer with "Residential", "Part 9", and "Part 3" designations (or equivalent Group A Level 3)
