Senior Designer, Development (Electrical)

Type: Full-Time
Range: $90,000 – $140,000
The Senior Designer, Development (Electrical) will be a key contributor to product development teams, responsible for designing and delivering robust, safe, and reliable electrical systems – from concept through validation and release to manufacturing.
Key Responsibilities
- Understand design requirements including business needs, customer discussions, internal standards, and industry regulations
- Resolve technical problems such as conflicting requirements, system reliability, cost constraints, and manufacturability challenges
- Mitigate risks through failure mode analysis, risk assessment, design adjustments, and validation test planning
- Design and deliver complete electrical sub‑systems for automated machinery
- Size and protect power systems
- Select and size servo systems
- 3‑D model electrical equipment and cables on the machine, and in cabinets
- Participate in validation testing and incorporate lessons learned into future designs
- Participate in team design reviews and verify design documentation before release
- Prepare manufacturing documentation: bills of materials, assembly drawings, cable fabrication drawings, wire preparation schedules, and work instructions
- Support assembly, testing, and installation, refining designs based on lessons learned
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
- Skilled in performing and validating electrical design calculations
- Experience solving technical problems, including reliability
- 5–10 years of product development experience in machinery automation
Additional Qualifications
- Understanding of electrical system troubleshooting, manufacturing, and assembly processes
- Experience with circuit design, drafting, and detailing techniques (EPLAN preferred)
- Experience with electrical cabinet layout design, modeling, and detailing techniques (NX preferred)
- Knowledge of machinery and electrical safety design related to North American and international standards (advantage)
- Experience selecting and sizing components such as sensors, breakers, contactors, cables, connectors, servo systems, and safety equipment
- Project lead experience (advantage)
- Ability to travel occasionally
