Building Servicer 2 – Arena / Outdoor Pool Attendant
Job Profile: The Building Servicer 2 Arena / Outdoor Pool Attendant is a semi‑skilled manual labour position involving customer interaction, organisational skill and independent and team work. In winter the role is in an ice arena; in summer it is in an aquatic environment.
Responsibilities:
- Operate and maintain ice maintenance equipment (Zamboni, ice Edger); perform vehicle and equipment checks.
- Perform equipment inspections, fluid checks, and maintain pre‑ and post‑use reports.
- Safely use hand and power tools.
- Perform custodial duties daily including cleaning player boxes, arena glass, dressing rooms, lobby, washrooms and spectator areas.
- Use backpack blower and snowblower to clean walkways and exits/entrances.
- Monitor arena for unsafe conditions, report irregularities and retrieve misplaced materials.
- Identify and record deficiencies and facilitate prompt repairs.
- Follow safety rules and regulations to protect self, coworkers and the public.
- Respond to customer service requests and provide corrective action.
- Open the facility and perform required safety checks and building duties.
- Maintain cooperative relationships with other departments.
- Monitor vehicle and arena inventory; replace supplies as needed.
- Maintain building security systems daily.
- Assist in training new employees by demonstrating proper task methods.
- Perform related duties and work overtime and shifts as required.
Responsibilities – Aquatics (Summer period):
- Maintain pool equipment systems and perform repairs.
- Perform custodial duties and general maintenance repairs.
- Test and maintain water quality according to Manitoba Health regulations.
- Assist in orienting employees and maintain cooperative working relationships.
- Perform related duties and work overtime and shifts as required.
Qualifications:
- Experience with custodial duties and cleaning equipment.
- Experience using hand and power tools, custodial equipment and measuring instruments.
- Knowledge of swimming‑pool maintenance (vacuuming, testing, balancing) is an asset.
- Knowledge of building maintenance procedures, HVAC systems, and components.
- Problem‑solving skills and sound decision making.
- Ability to handle staff and public satisfactorily.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong planning and organization skills.
- Ability to delegate tasks and provide direction to junior staff.
- Verbal and written communication skills for explicit instructions and documents.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel).
- Knowledge of WHMIS and safe handling of materials and chemicals.
- Knowledge of occupational hazards, safety precautions, and applicable regulations.
Conditions of Employment:
- Maintain legal eligibility to work in Canada; work permit holders must keep it valid.
- Police Information Check (Vulnerable Sector) and Child Abuse Registry Check required.
- Must hold a valid Manitoba Power Engineer’s Refrigeration Class (W ticket) or 4th class or better.
- Must possess a Swimming Pool Operations and Management Certificate or be willing to obtain within 18 months.
- Must have a valid Class 5 Manitoba Driver’s License and provide a driver’s notice in force document if requested.
- Shifts are 24/7; must work various shifts during week and weekends, days, evenings and overnight, and be prepared to relocate as directed.
- Must hold a St. John’s Ambulance Emergency First Aid Certificate and CPR‑C or equivalent within 3 months.
- Must be physically capable of performing all duties in all weather, including climbing, working at heights, and in confined spaces.
