Visiting Inst/Lect/Assist Professor Counseling & School Psychology (Temporary Employee Pool)

Position type: Part Time (Temporary). No tenure‑track. Engagement is contingent upon successful completion of offer letter and qualifications.

Primary Purpose And Essential Functions

The University of the Pacific seeks instructors to teach primarily in‑person, or hybrid classes, part‑time to students in Counseling and School Psychology programs. Visiting instructors/lecturers/assist professors are contracted via offer letters and are expected to perform the following duties:

- Complete all employment documents and required training, submit signed offer letters in a timely manner.
- Prepare for courses, including obtaining the approved syllabus, updating the course schedule, teaching methods, assessments and assignments as appropriate.
- Provide a classroom environment conducive to learning.
- Adhere to all university and school policies.
- Teach the assigned courses using andragogical (adult learning theory) and other methods fairly and effectively.
- Track student attendance and refer students to the Hive (Office of student support services) if required for attendance or performance issues.
- Use the university’s LMS (CANVAS) to post syllabus, assignments, reference materials and communicate with students.
- Read submitted student work and assessments/exams and provide written/oral/video comments to students in a timely manner to provide feedback on performance.
- Meet with students during office hours to provide individualized guidance and assess progress as needed.




- Work with administration to schedule makeup classes for any canceled classes to ensure the proper number of teaching hours is completed.
- Grade mid‑term and final examinations/papers and other assessments as appropriate, and submit those grades per timelines using the MyPacific portal.
- Review student‑completed course evaluations conducted online at the end of each semester to analyze student perceptions.

Minimum Qualifications

- Must hold a graduate degree in a relevant field.
- Relevant professional experience in educational or other settings as appropriate to the specific course.
- Content and pedagogical knowledge required for the specific course.
- Ability to teach adult learners.
- Demonstrated commitment to and teaching in diverse settings, as well as working with students from culturally and linguistically diverse communities.

Preferred Qualifications

- Prior higher education teaching experience.
- Appropriate California teaching credential if applicable to the program requirement.

Successful applicants must have their own device and reliable internet access. If instructional delivery is online,



the applicant is responsible for ergonomics of their work environment. For work primarily performed in a standard classroom environment, this requires extended periods of sitting, standing, bending, stooping, and occasional walking and lifting no more than 25 lbs.

Compensation

Hiring Range: $2,434 per unit. Dependent on enrollment. Additional considerations include scope and responsibilities, candidate’s qualifications, internal equity, and market and organizational considerations.
