Shared Health leads planning and coordination of patient-centered clinical and preventive health services across Manitoba. The organization also delivers some province-wide health services and supports centralized administrative and business functions for Manitoba health organizations. This designates an Indigenous competition and is open to Indigenous applicants. Proof of ancestry may be requested during selection.
Position Summary
This position reports to the Shared Health Indigenous Health Director Provincial Partnerships and supports Shared Health''s commitment to culturally safe, trauma-informed, and relationship-based engagement with Indigenous peoples; First Nation, Inuit and Métis. The Indigenous Engagement Specialist works to ensure Indigenous perspective, lived experience and knowledge systems are meaningfully integrated into health planning, public and patient engagement, quality improvement and decision-making processes. Through collaboration with Indigenous partners and internal health teams, the role facilitates respectful engagement that honors Indigenous protocol, values, and self-determination and promotes equity with all partners. Applying an Indigenous worldview to health operations, accreditation standards and service delivery, the role strengthens partnerships, advances reconciliation and trauma-informed practices, and supports improved health outcomes for Indigenous peoples across Manitoba.
Responsibilities (selected)
- Promote Indigenous perspectives and knowledge in health planning, patient engagement, and quality improvement.
- Foster respectful engagement with Indigenous communities and organizations, honoring protocol, values, and self-determination.
- Collaborate with Indigenous partners and internal teams to support culturally safe health services.
- Apply an Indigenous worldview to operations, accreditation standards, and service delivery.
- Contribute to reconciliation efforts and trauma-informed practices to improve health outcomes.

Qualifications And Skills
- 5 years of experience with public engagement tools (e.g., virtual engagement, focus groups).
- Knowledge and experience in public and patient engagement in health care decision-making, planning, and quality improvement.
- 3 years of experience managing diverse internal and external relationships and partnerships.
- Experience with provincial Indigenous organizations and agencies (First Nations, Tribal Councils, Manitoba Inuit Association, Manitoba Métis Federation, Urban Indigenous Associations, Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs, SCO, MKO).
- Experience or knowledge of applying an Indigenous lens to health operations and culturally safe care, including traditional healing practices as part of health services delivery.
- Lived Indigenous experience and understanding of Indigenous healthcare priorities, services, and challenges in Manitoba.
- Understanding of Accreditation Canada (AC) and Health Standards Organization (HSO) standards from an Indigenous perspective.
- Experience with Indigenous Services Canada (ISC) relationships and Manitoba health system context.
- Strong written and verbal communication and collaboration skills; adept at building relationships with Indigenous partners.
- Ability to develop and present findings to varied audiences.
- Experience in Manitoba’s public health care system and services.
Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)
- Post-secondary diploma or certificate in a relevant field (e.g., social sciences, healthcare, quality improvement, business, public engagement, public administration).
- Completion of Indigenous cultural safety and anti-racism training.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
Certification/Licensure/Registration
- Certified Public Participation Skilled (CP3) designation is considered an asset.
- Must have a valid Manitoba driver’s license and use of a personal motor vehicle for travel.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to handle multiple priorities and competing demands.
- Sitting for prolonged periods of time.
- May require lifting items up to 25 lbs on occasion.
