What is the opportunity?
As RBC continues to grow, the size and complexity of our security solutions are on the rise. In parallel, increased diligence is required for RBC to ensure our security controls are operating as expected at all times. The Director, Cyber Technology Operational Assurance will interface with leadership, technology SMEs, control testers, auditors, and regulators. This is a great opportunity to help ensure our Cyber Technology Operations team is well positioned from a technology and control perspective.
You will collaborate with leaders across a multitude of security technologies, which will give you a unique experience on the bleeding edge of cyber security while helping to ensure operational effectiveness.
What will you do?
- Develop and implement strategic plans, maturity models, and roadmaps for infrastructure security, collaborating with stakeholders to prioritize initiatives and optimize service delivery.
- Consult on procedural optimization and control design, particularly within the first line of defense (1B environment).
- Ensure controls are appropriately designed and tested across audit engagements.
- Evaluate new and evolving risks, including AI‑related control implications.
- Assess information security risks and endpoint security considerations.
- Consult with DevOps and SRE teams to ensure adequate design of data completeness and accuracy.
- Support control testing teams and collaborate with first and second line functions.
- Interface with 1LOD, 2LOD, 3LOD and regulators to ensure all engagements stay on track and within scope.
- Consult with SMEs on all new audit issues, findings and EIM issues to ensure scope, risk treatment, and timelines are adequate.
- Assist SMEs on all operational issue closure packages and ensure timely closure of issues.
- Consult with technical SMEs on the build/design of new solutions to ensure all operational solutions are designed with risk and controls in mind.
- Consult with technical SMEs on regular maintenance of existing solutions to ensure they continue to operate as expected.
- Work in an Agile environment using Jira to manage tasks and meet deadlines.
Must‑have qualifications
- 5+ years of experience managing technology compliance and risk.
- 5+ years of experience interacting with regulators, internal and external auditors.
- Proven experience with endpoint and security infrastructure controls (firewalls, access management, data protection, system hardening).
- Knowledge in building highly scalable, robust, and fault‑tolerant processes.
- Proficiency in control testing methodologies for security and infrastructure controls.
- Understanding of data completeness, accuracy, and security validation principles.
- Expertise in designing operational solutions with embedded risk and control considerations.
- Strong knowledge of solution maintenance and ongoing operational controls.
- Ability to identify and prioritize scope, risk treatment, and closure timelines for security issues.
Nice‑to‑have
- One or more of: CISSP, CCSP, CCSK, CISM, CRISC, Lean Six Sigma, CRMA, CERM, CGEIT.
- Banking experience.
