FT/PT Position: 1 Full time Permanent Position

Location: Wabigoon Lake Ojibway Nation, ON

Reports To: Jordan’s Principle Service Coordinator

Salary: 75,000 – 83,000

Closing Date: September 19, 2025

Summary: The Child/Youth Education Behavior Specialist / Student Support Worker is responsible for delivering culturally safe, evidence-informed, and trauma-aware supports to First Nations children and youth who require individualized assistance in educational and behavioral development. This position will work in collaboration with families, educators, and allied health professionals (e.g., Speech-Language Pathologists, Occupational Therapists, Clinical Social Workers) to implement and monitor personalized support strategies. The Specialist will serve as a liaison between home, school, and therapeutic services to ensure seamless delivery of care and consistency across environments.

Responsibilities

Provide behavioral and educational support to children and youth as outlined in their IEPs, Child Plans, or professional recommendations.

Engage in collaborative consultation with teachers, early childhood educators, and support staff to assess student needs and implement targeted interventions.

Conduct in-home and in-school observations, support plan implementation, and provide real-time behavioral coaching to caregivers and staff.

Assist with the interpretation and application of clinical reports and assessments from Child Support Professionals to ensure appropriate follow-through.

Monitor progress, adapt interventions as needed, and document all activities.

Facilitate culturally grounded interventions and activities, integrating traditional knowledge.

Support transitions between services, grade levels, or settings through coordination with educators, therapists,



and case managers.

Attend interprofessional case conferences and contribute to wraparound support planning and service navigation.

Maintain strict confidentiality and security protocols to protect client information.

Attend staff meetings as required or requested.

Any other relevant job duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Must possess a Bachelor’s Degree.

Experience working with children/youth in the mental health field.

Certification in Nonviolent Crisis Intervention, Mental Health First Aid an asset.

Knowledge of behavioral intervention strategies.

Demonstrated ability to support students with exceptional needs, including those with neurodiversity, learning disabilities, or trauma-related behavioral challenges.

Understanding of Indigenous child wellness frameworks, the impacts of intergenerational trauma, and the principles of cultural safety in practice.

Willing and able to provide a current Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Check.

Must possess a valid G class driver’s license and have access to a reliable vehicle.

Proficiency with computers and software applications, such as Microsoft Office.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.

Must be able and willing to adhere to strict confidentiality and code of ethics.

Willing to submit to workplace drug testing.
