Contract Details
Type: Contract
Duration: 12 months to start plus possible multiple extensions or transition to a permanent role
Rate: $110 - $130/hr + C2C depending on overall experience
Language Requirements: English and French
Location: Remote, Canada
Job Summary
The z/OS Systems Programmer role requires the resource to provide services in a customer, multi‑vendor, multi‑protocol complex network/systems environment. The primary point of contact for z/OS operating‑system questions and support, engaging in identifying and resolving complex issues related to product/service installation, update, configuration, operations, and performance.
Responsibilities
- Interact with customers, vendors, and management to ensure high customer satisfaction.
- Serve as the primary contact for z/OS operating‑system Q&A.;
- Identify and resolve complex problems related to installation, update, configuration, operations, and performance.
- Install, maintain, and troubleshoot Mainframe z/OS and related ISVs.
- Determine and resolve problems; participate in disaster‑recovery tests and on‑call rotation.
- Install, customize, test, and implement ISV software; configure user exits and system modifications; understand assembler language.
- Provide technical guidance, lead professional work teams, conduct special projects, and manage departmental activities.
- Participate in functional program planning and contribute to business measurements,
customer satisfaction, and project cost impact.
Technical Skills
- SMP/E and system utilities (SMP/E, ACF2, IO Gen, TSO, ISPF)
- Installation and support of Mainframe z/OS; reworking and applying user mods and testing software
- Advanced JES2 and JES3 skills
- Support of 120 types of ISVs and 130 logical partitions (Lpars)
- Understanding of sysplex concepts and CPU key management (ordering, applying)
- Experience working with vendors (IBM and others) for product questions and support of multiple accounts
- System utilities: DFDSS, IDCAMS, IEBGENER; extensive DFSMS knowledge
- Problem & change management (eESM experience is an asset)
Qualifications
- Bilingual – written and spoken French and English.
- Experience as a z/OS Systems Programmer, including installation, maintenance, and support of mainframe operating systems.
- Proficiency in system utilities, user exits, system modifications, and assembler language.
- Ability to work weekends and outside of normal business hours in a fast‑paced, dynamic, and stressful environment.
- Strong communication, negotiation, and problem‑solving skills; ability to lead teams and influence stakeholders.
- Experience with environmental management and program products (where applicable).
Additional Skills
- Adaptation to standard client change‑management processes.
- Experience working in a virtual team workplace; communicating with peers across the country.
