What will you be doing?

Performing the recognized duties of a journeyman heat and frost insulator.

Installing and removing insulation materials on piping, vessels, tanks, boilers, and ductwork.

Preparing and applying insulation materials using proper fastening techniques.

Cutting and fitting insulation on valves, fittings, and irregularly shaped equipment.

Applying insulation cement and finishing coats to ensure proper insulation protection.

Installing finishing covers and fabricating metal coverings as required.

Estimating quantities and selecting appropriate insulation materials for various jobs.

Safely handling and disposing of asbestos and other insulating materials.

Maintaining a clean, safe, and organized work environment.

Assisting in the training and development of apprentices and new employees.

Other duties as assigned by your manager.

What We Are Looking For

Education

Completed apprenticeship or equivalent as a Heat & Frost Insulator.

Experience

Experience performing insulating work in an industrial or plant environment.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications.

Demonstrated knowledge of insulation materials, applications, and installation methods.

Skilled in understanding piping systems, heat transfer properties, and plant systems.

Knowledge of safety practices, including working with hazardous materials such as asbestos.





Experience using hand and power tools safely and effectively.

Ability to fabricate metal coverings and perform layout work.

Strong attention to detail and craftsmanship in installation work.

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Strong commitment to maintaining a safe work workplace.

Security Clearance Eligibility Required

Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3-5 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat’s “Standard on Security Screening” and the “Policy on Government Security.”

Working Conditions

Working schedule: Four (4) days per week, ten (10) hours per day for a forty (40) hour work week.

This position is part of the M&E; Union and is governed by the terms and conditions outlined in the M&E; Collective Agreement. As a member of this bargaining unit, you’ll benefit from clear expectations around hours of work, wages, vacation, and other conditions that support a fair and consistent working environment.

This position requires physical fitness and the ability to work in environments that may include temperature extremes, confined spaces, heights, and exposure to industrial conditions.

Fully on‑site position based at our Chalk River Laboratory in Ontario, Ottawa Valley. The site offers a beautiful natural setting with forests, lakes, and wildlife, surrounded by welcoming communities such as Deep River, Petawawa, and Pembroke, providing an excellent work‑life balance.
