Midland Food is a agile and growing seafood wholesale distributor serving the Greater Toronto Area. We specialize in delivering high-quality frozen seafood and food products to restaurants, retail markets and other food service businesses.
We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Junior Accountant to join our finance team on a 1-year contract. The successful candidate will primarily support accounts receivable, cash management, and month-end closing activities while collaborating with internal stakeholders to ensure accurate and timely financial operations.
Key Responsibilities
Accounts Receivable
Apply incoming customer payments accurately to the appropriate accounts and investigate any unmatched or incomplete remittance information.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date Accounts Receivable records in NetSuite to support financial reporting and account reconciliation.
Collaborate closely with the Sales team to resolve billing inquiries, payment discrepancies, and customer account issues.
Prepare and monitor Accounts Receivable aging reports, follow up on overdue balances, and manage collection activities professionally and effectively.
Cash Management
Maintain daily bank book and petty cash records,
ensuring all transactions are recorded accurately and promptly.
Month-End Closing
Prepare journal entries and supporting documentation.
Perform monthly bank reconciliations.
Maintain balance sheet schedules and assist with month-end and year-end closing processes.
General Support
Provide support for other accounting functions and administrative duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
Ability to work independently while effectively managing multiple priorities and deadlines.
Solid analytical and problem-solving skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
Well-organized with excellent planning and time management skills.
Demonstrated ability to collaborate and build effective working relationships across departments.
Strong sense of accountability, ownership, and professionalism.
Minimum of one year of experience in Accounts Receivable or a similar accounting role.
Experience with NetSuite is an asset.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, Word, and Outlook.
Robust written and verbal communication skills in English and Mandarin and/or Cantonese .
