POSITION SUMMARY
Step into a leadership role as our MechanicalLeadhand, where you’ll oversee day-to-day maintenance and repair activitieswhile supporting a skilled mechanical team. You’ll provide hands-on guidance,troubleshoot equipment issues, and ensure all work is completed safely,efficiently, and to a high standard. Acting as the first point of contact onthe shop floor, you’ll mentor team members, coordinate tasks, and work closelywith the Supervisor or Maintenance Manager to plan and execute mechanical work.If you’re a strong technician who thrives in a fast-paced environment andenjoys leading others, this role offers a chance to make a meaningful impact.
Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Support
Provide hands-on leadership and direction to mechanics,apprentices, and labourers.
Assign daily tasks and ensure work is completed safely, accurately,and on schedule.
Train and mentor team members on proper mechanical techniques,troubleshooting, and safe work practices.
Support the supervisor with workforce planning and shiftcoordination.
Maintenance & Repair
Able to perform diagnostics, repairs, adjustments, and preventivemaintenance on a variety of heavy equipment, light vehicles, andmechanical systems.
Assist mechanics with complex repairs and ensure quality standardsare met.
Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues andrecommend corrective actions.
Ensure maintenance records, work orders,



and inspection reports arecompleted accurately.
Safety & Compliance
Promote and enforce company and site safety policies, procedures,and standards.
Conduct pre-job hazard assessments and ensure the crew follows safework practices.
Participate in incident reporting, near-miss investigations, andcorrective actions as required.
Ensure tools, equipment, and work areas are kept clean, safe, andserviceable.
Planning & Coordination
Work with the Supervisor/Maintenance Manager to plan scheduledmaintenance and repairs.
Communicate parts, materials, and tooling needs to ensure efficientoperations.
Assist in monitoring equipment performance and identifyingopportunities for improvement.
Support coordination between operations and maintenance to minimizedowntime.
Mentorship andKnowledge SharinG
Provide guidance, training, and mentorship to teammembers, especially local Tahltan workers, by sharing technical skills, safetypractices, and industry knowledge in a respectful and culturally aware manner.Uphold Tahltan values and principles by fostering a work environment built onrespect, teamwork, and mutual learning. Support the growth of the Tahltanworkforce by helping build capacity, promoting safe and effective workpractices,



and ensuring that knowledge is passed on to strengthen both the teamand the broader Tahltan community for the benefit of current and futuregeneration.
Qualifications
Red Seal Technician (or equivalent) preferred
3–5 years of mechanical experience in industrial, mining, or construction environments
Previous leadership or leadhand experience an asset
Solid knowledge of heavy-duty equipment and systems
Skilled in troubleshooting, diagnostics, repairs, and maintenance
Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics
Proven leadership, communication, and organizational skills
Strong commitment to safety and quality workmanship
Experience with service records, work orders, and CMMS systems
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Ability to pass a mandatory pre-employmentdrug and alcohol screening to visit site.
Willingness to sign an Oath ofConfidentiality.
Valid driver’s license and current abstract
WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is primarily performed in a shopenvironment and outdoors, often exposed to varying weather conditions.
May be required to work in remote locations,on uneven terrain, or at heights.
Regular use of heavy machinery, hand tools,and power tools if required.
Physical demands include standing for longperiods, lifting, bending, and moving equipment or parts.
Shift work, overtime, and call-outs may berequired depending on operational needs.
Must adhere to strict safety protocols andwear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
