Minimum Nurse to Patient Ratios (mNPRs) Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) is proud to be part of the provincial implementation of minimum Nurse to Patient Ratios (mNPRs), an initiative aimed at enhancing nursing practice and strengthening quality of care across the health system. mNPRs set the minimum number of nurses providing care to patients on a given unit. In British Columbia, mNPRs are developed in partnership with the Ministry of Health, the BC Nurses’ Union (BCNU) and health organizations. Salary Details Salary range: CAD $41.42/Hr. – CAD $55.91/Hr.
Training Opportunity Note that a resume and cover letter are required to apply for this specialty training opportunity.
Eligibility for the post‑basic training education is prioritized to applicants with approximately two years recent acute medical/surgical experience upon pediatric program full‑time start date. Preferences will be given to applicants with high‑acuity training.
BCIT Pediatric Emergency Nursing Specialty Program
BCIT Onsite Orientation: Aug. 13, 2026
Online Theory (if required): Aug. 17 – Nov. 27, 2026
BCIT Workshop Days (Paid): Aug. 17, 18, 20 & 21, 2026
Exam Days (Paid): Aug. 24, 2026 & Nov. 27, 2026
Full‑time training at BCIT & practicum locations: Jan. 4, 2027 – Apr. 1, 2027* course dates will be modified based on previous courses completed, VCH only funds for required courses.
Applicants must successfully complete the post‑basic training education prior to working in the Department.
Candidates accepting this training opportunity agree to remain with Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) as a regular status nurse in the area of nursing applicable to the education program for which they are hired for at least 18 months subsequent to completing training.
This will ensure that candidates are able to consolidate and apply skills in the specialty area that VCH has supported and funded candidates to complete.



In the event that a candidate leaves the area of nursing applicable to the education program for which they were hired or VCH in under 18 months, VCH will seek to recover the cost of the program.

Vancouver Coastal Health is looking for a Registered Nurse with training or experience in Pediatrics to join the Short Stay Pediatric Unit at Richmond Hospital. Apply today to join our team!
As a Registered Nurse in Pediatrics with VCH you will:
Focus on the care of pediatric patients, recognizing that children have unique healthcare needs that require specialized knowledge and expertise.
Assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient/client care.
Participate in discharge planning, function as a client advocate and teach clients/families about illness/injury and overall health promotion and wellness.
Enhance quality of life from the perspective of the client/family.
Document care provided and respond to incidents in accordance with established policies and procedures.
Consult, confer and collaborate with other health care providers.
Maintain and advance own clinical competence.
Participate on designated hospital committees/teams and approved research projects as assigned.
Closing Statement The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes. As per Ministry of Health policy, all health care workers working in publicly‑funded health care facilities are required to report their past receipt of certain vaccines or history of certain infections. Collecting these records will allow for offering of any missing vaccines,



and for appropriate actions to be taken in the event of any future exposure to a communicable disease or during outbreaks. For all new hires and appointments to Vancouver Coastal Health, you will be asked to provide this information as part of the onboarding process.
